sr20det help please

i have a 1989 nissan 240sx. i just swapped a 92 sr20det into it. i just got everything hooked up and a few exhaust leaks finished. i now have a new problem. i crank over my engine and it cranks over quite fine but it does not run perfect. it stutters and sounds like its going to die. but never does. it almost sounds like its running 300 to 500 rpm's but i dont know for sure because my gauge doesnt work. i just replaced the spark plugs. its also smoking black. im wondering if anyone knows what i could try to do to fix it.

sounds like its idling really low? how about bumping up the idle? or maybe the timing is slightly off?

it idles up and down so i think that i should get it at a constant idleing first. do u know right off ur head what the timing should be at.? or anything else that it might be? the guy i took it to.. says that he timed it. :S

could be vacuum. Try spraying carb or brake cleaner around the intake manifold and the hoses.

also sounds like your running rich, you could have a bad temp sensor as well.

Factory is 15, ive had cars that liked 18 alot more. Also had a car that ran great 30 off, that was a weird one.

if its running with black smoke and running poorly, make sure all your pipes are connected well. if it was a vacuum leak on the intake manifold, you would hear a defined hissing sound.
