sr20det swap help

i have a 1989 nissan 240 sx and i just recently swaped 1992-93 sr20det into it. I finally got all of my hoses hooked up. i cranked it over and got it timed to where it is sapose to be. but its currently blowing out alot of smoke and isnt running perfectly smooth and when i rev it i do hear the turbo spoiling but the BOV never blows at all. there is some kind of leak on down by my turbo and exhaust manifold. i took of the piping thats right after the turbo and its dark and has an oily substance on the inside of the piping. i blieve its comming out from the manifold some where. i was wondering if anyone has any clue of what i should do to get it running better... get the leak sealed... and for the BOV to blow??. i think something might be messed up with the waste gate but im not sure on any of that.

www.240sxmotoring.com
www.phase2motortrend.com

those are good spots for OEM SR20DET gaskets and parts, as well as aftermarket.

thanks for all the info. my engine isnt runnin right and once i umplug my maf it usually runs better. im guessingthe my maf is fried. i think that i should get a new one but im not havin much luck. i have found the maf off of an older 240 that is said to saposibly be able to work with the new SR motor. from everything i read its true but i had just wanted to make clear of it?

Yes that should work, but remember those are only good at reading up to about 250-300HP. If you are making more power than that, I suggest swapping to a larger MAF such as a N60 or Z32TT

if you are running with the larger MAFs yes. You will need to splice the wires together or get an adaption harness, which is available on ebay/online. If you are running the old KA MAF, I believe it might be plug and play but there might be some wiring issues

ok heres the deal. the 52F00 is the maf you should be using. the 40F00 will work in a pinch if needed, but the resolution isnt 100%. plus you need to replace the plug if using the 40F (4 wire vs 3wire plug)

chances are you have a leak somewhere. make sure that the turbo inlet hose has the recirc pipe capped off. next, check all your piping.

which intercooler are you using?

the BOV generally will not blow off in nuetral bc you are not going to be building boost unless there is load on the motor.

which BOV are you using?
which intercooler?
whats your total setup consist of?
cams?
injectors?
etc...

list all that you have done to it and i will figure out the problem.

i changed the wiring on my MAF to the 3 wire plug because my 52f00 MAF wasnt working properly so i got a different 40f00 one, now the plug fits.
i have a front mount intercooler; i also have a turbo type "H" BOV ( the same kind found on the subaru sti. my hoses and stuff was all smoke tested so there should be no leak in that. other that this everything else is stock on the 89 240sx with a 92-93 sr20det swap in it.

You need to check your ECU, and see if it is throwing any dtc's. If it throws a 12(off top of my head) you will know it's the maf.

well, its going to throw a MAF code bc he ran it with it unplugged.

ok. so here are some things to check...

make sure your ecu plug is tightened down all the way. TRIPLE check. tighten the plug down, and push in the ends.

make sure, if you are using a greddy front mount, that the hole in the lower drivers side pipe is blocked off.

make sure that your BOV is not leaking any air at idle.

and as always, check to make sure the motor is in time. im not familiar with this BOV, but i do know that the factory STi BOV was a bypass valve and therefore leaks and that wont work with an SR unless that leaking air is recirculated.
