Best setup for 300-400 dollars

Hey guys... finally got a good paying job... looking forward to a future SR20DET swap of course, but first I wanna do the suspension and whatnot. I do a bit of drift, a bit of road racing, and of course, cruise the Smokey Mountains as fast possible.... Now, what would be the wisest way to spend money on my suspension.... Im talking specifically the Springs/Shocks/Coilovers.. not strut bars and whatnot... Im going to worry about that AFTER I get the rest done. I still have alot of work to do to this car, so I need to spend money wisely...I really wanna do the SR20 before the end of summer.

Oh, its a 1990 Fastback

I was actually looking at Tanabe springs, but if these are great, then that sounds good. I dont really care about appearance too much, bumpy streets around here anyways, I just want a good performance ride like I said... I know Suspension is important, but a nice LSD and 250HP is more important to me at the moment.

Also, great to hear about the strut bars, this was going to be my route anyways probably... after all, there isnt much difference between any two strut bars.

Well a nice lsd and 250 hp is just going to get your car off a cliff, into a tree or another car or a house.

Suspension is the KEY fool.

Yeah, but considering the bang for the buck... its not like Im leaving suspension stock... a nice set of gas shocks and good sturdy springs equipped with strut bars is gonne be plenty to keep 250HP, or even stock SR20DET 200 HP straight. The fact is, I do NOT have 1300 to dish out on coilovers, nor will I spend that until I have decent enough horsepower to hold my own. Its simply not a wise investment in my situation... So back to my question of spending 300-400 bucks.

By the way, you need to work on your driving skills if you can't handle 250HP without killer suspension k thx

dont try to act cool again, landho_s13 he knows what he is talking about and i hear he is a good *** driver.

balance is the key, suspension is a big investment, just going springs and strut bars is not the cure for a unbalanced car. i saw a supercharged IS300 at a autox event, thing was pushing high 300's and it barely had suspension done and was barely able to go through corners. wanting a sr20det with a lot of power is what every kid dreams about and never realizes that the reality is not in power, its all in balance and skill level.

Firstly, I've got better things to do than try to 'act cool', but generally when one flames, which calling somebody a fool is flaming, they can expect a little something back, so mind your business. Trust me, firstly I've been autocrossing a 85 MR2 since I was 15, and Im twenty now... after that I had a RX-7 TurboII... I know where Balance and Power cross. I simply posted because I know every car is difference, and wanted a little advice on that, but all I get is one intelligent comment and two kids being smart allecks. And who exactly dreams of a 250HP car? You can go buy a 97 Mustang that has that for around 4 grand... dream? I doubt it. Never dissed his driving skills, but if he in fact can't control a 250HP car (this isn't an overwhelming amount you know) then he DOES need help. It also doesn't take a professional driver to understand that 240s and IS300s are different cars.

I can somewhat estimate your road racing ability, simply because you're telling me what I need and don't need... anybody who knows their stuff wouldn't venture to make such arguments without knowing what the local tracks are like.

For just a little more, $500 shipped on ebay you can get KYB AGX's and Tein S.tech's.

Good budget setup until you learn to outdrive it then you can get some coilovers.

What I just did and my .02 anyway.

I'm w/ jrbump. agx's and stechs.
It's great to get to adjust your suspension to the course that you're running, not quite coilovers, but it's pretty damn good.
Jdmsoarer on these boards can get you a /great/ hookup on agx's too (i shop like hell & he beat ebay prices) ^.^

well see i'm not seeing the point here for the cheap suspension set-up. you are saving up for the SR and when you get the SR you're going to want something better than a simple shock/spring combo. So why waiste the money? I know its something to fool around with, but why not save the money up for something ultimatly better?

the best set up for $400 is to save 600 more and get KTS colovers

If your locked into this budget go into AGX/ S-Tech combo.

However I agree that if you plan on making some real power in the future with this car that you should just save it and buy a real set of coilovers. Why buy something that your just going to replace later? Like if the project is over a span of years ok, It kinnda makes sense to go the AGX/ S-Tech combo route. Because you'll get your use out of them. But like If your planning to build a 300-400hp SR than I woundn't bother buying that setup.
