Brake pad, break in

I just replaced my pads and rotors with Brembo Slotted and Project Mu B-Forces. I noticed however, that rotor is only being worn on the top half, is it supposed to be like that? Is it because the pad has to wear in then it will establish full contact with the rotor?

I know there is a break in time for new pads, I don't know how this will apply to your application. I just came across it at one point.

how long has it been on? Give about a week or two, practice some quick brake drifts while you wait

it should make full contact soon.

i didnt realize that different brands had different break-in methods/periods.
i was under the impression that you have to "bed" new pads.
brake from 60-5mph, let the breaks cool and repeat.

Definately take them out and break them in, brake heavily from 20, then 30, and so on.

If that doesn't fix it maybe the caliper isn't pressing evenly, and you may want to replace/upgrade.

Its only doing it on the rear, i took a sharpie and drew a line down the whole rotor, then when i was done driving the line was gone. however the rear is only touching on about 70% of the surface. I'll try to post pics.

dude don't worry about it, as long as you installed it right it'll be fine. Worry about it a couple weeks from now if they're still wearing unevenly. When I first put my brake pads in some lady in a SUV cut me off so I had to slow down FAST from about 50-5 mph, my brakes were smoking for a few minutes but were fine after they cooled.

yes, the brembo rotors are available for front and rear. fronts are vented, rear are solid. ( I wish they made vented rears, but O well). Just get blank ones, do not get slotted or cross-drilled. They are not as strong and eat your pads really fast.

but isnt the point of slotted/drilled rotors to keep the rotor cooler? (doesnt get as hot so fast)

to release trapped gasses between the rotor and pad.
however, it doesnt change the fact that it will eat up your pads very quickly.

ooo i thought the slotted/drilled rotors were so that it doesnt heat up as fast as it would on a regular rotor

thanx for straighten'n that out

It also doesn't help significantly enough to make it worth losing the rotor strength. If you get a good quality set like brembo's, the vented rotors should cool enough. Most manufacturer's of drilled/slotted rotors have a disclaimer for using them on the track, being they have a chance of breaking.
