installing tie rods. Special tools?

My Tie rods are bent.. inner and outer end. Or at least just the driver side. I'm going to order the Inner and the outer tie rod but whatelse do i need to replace? Good year told me i also need an "inner socket" whatever the hell that is. i think that's just b.s. tho. I heard i might need a special tool also. I heard the difficulty of this isn't very high but isn't very low either. i'm just sick of handing my car to a shop and telling me that i need more "b.s. parts".

For those that have replaced their tie rods or upgraded to aftermarket tie rods please help. Thanks!

you'll need a tie rod end puller to remove the tie rod end from the front spindle. Some people use big hammers and end up killing the threads on the ball stud. Other than that, the rest is standard wrenches and sockets.

Don't forget to get an alignment when you're done

I re-read your guide again. It explains the removal of the outer tie rod very extensively, but I totally forgot to ask you about the removal of the inner tie rod after the boot removal. It doesn't go through that on your guide so i wanted to ask you if you knew how to remove the inner tie rod itself before i start taking apart my car.

Thanks again.

I'm surprised nobody else can answer my questions. d=)

well yeah, the guide was to replace the tie rod boots, not the whole tie rod.

IIRC To remove the inner tie rod, first get the boot off so you can see the inner part of the tie rod. There's goung to be a big square part of the inner tie rod. between that and the rack there's a lockplate - you have to bend the lockplate tabs out in order to loosen the inner tie rod. With the locking plate straight, you can now grab the square part of the inner tie rod like it was a nut, and loosen the rod to remove...

...you know, get an FSM so you can see what it says, and there's pictures too.
