Larger Rear Rotors

Thumbs up Larger Rear Rotors

Hi, I would like to know if it would or wouldn't be good to have rotors in the rear of my vehicle that are 1 inch larger than the front. My reason for asking is that I have z32 rotors/calipers on the way for the rear, and s14 front calipers for the front coming in also. I think the z32 rear calipers measure 11"? The s14 calipers are 10". I am going to be upgrading my vehicle to 5 lugs, and these parts will most likely be used.

due to braking and the nose of the car diving down i would belive that is the reason to have larger in the front or the same all around as much as i know man.

your braking is gonna be all retarded... the rears could pull harder than the front, shich would completely throw off the balance/ normal braking of the car

I do not know much about braking dynamics, but I know that vehicles have larger rotors in the front than the rear. It is also true that the weight shifts to the front of the vehicle under braking, which is a better reason to have larger rotors up front. My pops (project funder) has purchased a 300zx rear brake upgrade, but has purchased stock 5 lug s14 rotors for the front. I know that this is not a good idea and am trying to tell him that either we fully upgrade the brakes/rotors to 300zx specs or purchase s14 rear rotors to make it balanced.

Okay, I'm going to grossly display my technical ineptness here:

I thought that larger rotors = more surface area, which = better heat dissipation and resistance to fade. That, in and of itself, would not have a profound effect on braking balance, I would think (and would only be impractical, unless you do a LOT of driving in reverse). However, larger, beefier, harder-squeezing calipers would. Am I looking at this the wrong way?

with the larger rotors come larger calipers.
the contact surface between the rotor and pads increases with larger rotor/caliper. the larger contact surface itself would make the brakes slow down more with the same pressure as the stock pads. basically what i'm trying to say is that the bigger contact patch give it more area to distribute the workload so each square inch of the pad/rotor will have to do less work.

i'm not very good with explaining things, so if you dont get what i mean, maybe i can try again. or someone better with words can take over.

larger rotor/caliper means more torque of the pads to the rotor. a 10 inch rotors pads will reach *roughly* out to 5 inches from the center of the axle... an 11 inch rotors pads will reach 5.5 inches out... its a lever... a larger lever with the same power input will output more torque than a smaller lever
