Megan Racing vs Apexi N1 coilovers THE TRUTH NOW

Edit by Raine:

People pay attention:
Apex-i and Megan coilovers are
NOT the same.
Please see the last post in this thread.

BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL POST IN IT'S ENTIRETY (minus the photos):

PROVEN FALSE:

================================================== ===

It's time to let the cat out of the bag...

I have said the MR coilovers are resold by several brands, and rebadged by many of the JDM brands...

I'll let you guys put 2 and 2 together...

Apexi N1 coilovers: $1300
MR's: $900
Saving $400 on the same coilover: Priceless.....

Levi SPL S14 03-21-2005 11:51 AM

Hahaha priceless HAHAH!!!

JDMxDrift 03-21-2005 12:23 PM

Nice "made in Taiwan"... Woot Woot...:D

underground 03-21-2005 12:30 PM

Trust me 80% of the Japanese parts are made in China/Taiwan/S.Korea... I can assure you...

Levi SPL S14 03-21-2005 01:20 PM

^ I thought every on knew that.
The parts are sourced from china, taiwan, korea assembled in japan.

Except the shock part that is usually made in japan for different companies.

Catharsis 03-22-2005 09:09 PM

nice to see someone backing up what i said..

sticky for sure best value in suspention right now

JDMxDrift 03-24-2005 11:08 PM

Catharsis, i thought the KTS were the best value in suspension right now?? no:dunno:

So all the little pieces are manufactured by 6 yr. old kids in china then shipped to Japan for assembly, then shipped to america for a 1000% mark up?

Catharsis 03-25-2005 01:10 AM

Wrong. Rumors such as the one you are spreading are false. Megan Racing makes no such claims to these rumors. Do not spread false information around in the forums. Other than the similarities in color, they are not the same.

Catharsis 04-04-2005 08:48 PM

uhh he megan racing coilovers say apexi n1 all over them

What are you trying to say here?

In response to what I think you're asking, Megan denies the rumor which claims a connection between the Apexi ExV and the Megan Coilovers.

Catharsis 04-05-2005 06:08 AM

where?

phreze 04-05-2005 04:39 PM

They do look alike but where you get the $2500 price I don't know. I found them for $1189. Here is a compersion of the specs

- Full Coil Over Threaded Base
- Monotube Shock Absorber utilizing a 44mm diameter piston
- 32 level damping adjustment
- 62 mm direct wound spring
- Piston diameter is 44mm
- Front springs rate is 8k and rear springs rate is 6k
- 22mm Strut type rod (All others use a 12.5 mm rod)
- Quick Adjuster, Coil Over Adjustment Wrench included
- Exclusive Upper Mounts
- Aluminum Brackets (Strut utilizes steel brackets)
- One Year Warranty for (Oil, Gas)

Megan Racing
- Spring Rates: 8kg Front and 6kg Rear
- Pillow Ball Upper Mounts.
- Rubber Dust Covers.
- Adjustable Ride Height
- Aggressive Spring Rates
- Single-Cyliner Design
- Aluminum Brackets
32 Levels of Adjustment:
1-8: Suggested for track use.
9-16: Suggested for mountain/aggressive use.
17-32: Suggested for common street use.
- All coilover damper kits come with 1 year manufacture-defect warranty.

Not bad for an entry level coil-over but at a $200 I might go withthe Apexis just becuase they are a trusted brand.

heres a pic ofthe megans to compare

I'm with you on trusting a brand that I'm familiar with. I know I'm going to buy these for my Rsx, and give them a shot (Megan). I mean $900, you can't go wrong here! Also, just for your knowledge, Apex'i N1 Pros and Type V are discontinued. They currently only make the ExV which is made in some country like Taiwan or something. Apex will come out with a line to replace their flagship coilovers, EVO. No, not the Lancer, that's just their new line, like how Greddy have an EVO exhaust. If you want to pay the big bucks like Apex N1's, buy Ohlins instead. These are top top top notch. If you don't know the company, get with it!

JVD 04-06-2005 05:59 AM

Wow, teh Megans are ExV's! The ExV's are Megans?

Krazyballa3 04-11-2005 11:28 PM

hey who has megan coilovers here... how are they!?!?!

Not exactly, but they are similar enought in price a features to get either one.

Sizzzoooo 04-17-2005 12:37 PM

I have a set coming in the next container. And YES they are the same. Do your research and you will find it.

Megan

Apex'i

Apex'i

What else do you need, Specs? I can get those too.

regardless to say, specs are exactly same. piston size, spring rates, alum brackets...etc..

naptime 04-17-2005 12:46 PM

I'm gettin 1000 from tax refund and was thinking of either the megans (is it pronounced megan like a girls name?) or save up a few more bills and get flex's. Who knows, I might end up going the spring/shock setup instead for beginners and then upgrade later on.

sr20det power 04-17-2005 11:38 PM

my opinion would be might as well do it right the first time

DriftOrDieTryin 04-19-2005 04:43 PM

yeah get coils its not worth it to upgrade later

so what your saying is the N1's are the mr's???

naptime 04-19-2005 08:49 PM

Point taken. Thanks. I think I needed to hear that one more time hehehehe :thumb:

Slidin240 04-22-2005 05:57 PM

Ok one last time, N1's are the same as MR coilovers? if so we are gonna save sum $$$ :bigok:

juss to make sure, show us the specs Sizzzoooo :thumb:

BlueWind 04-22-2005 07:39 PM

I'm not going to say this again. They are NOT the same. Go call MR and Apex. They will tell you the same. That Sizzooo guy is making assumptions. They may have the same specs, the fact of the matter is that they are NOT the same damn thing! That whole MR selling to Apex for resale is a rumor. I have a friend who works for Megan and guess what, it's a rumor. So do YOUR research. Specs/color are not evidence enough to prove your claims.

Levi SPL S14 04-22-2005 10:22 PM

andy, is that you?

No ;) But I think we are refering to the same person.

Fast1One 04-23-2005 03:30 PM

So whats the verdict? I dont care if they are the same or not. ARE THEY WORTH THE MONEY. I dont want to spent money on megans only to replace them later.

I get what you're saying. I for instance am buying the Megan for my RSX. For their price, they offer all the specs I desire and more.

However, being this is a 240 site, it's a tough choice. The Apex ExV's are cheap as it is. Apex has a new line coming out that are replacing the N1's, they are called the Evolution. There will be street, drift, and competition track sets. These will reaplce and become the flagship coilovers for Apex. The ExV's are comparable to World Sport in a sense. The ExV's however, are no pushover as were the World Sports. Pick the coilover in your price range which offers the best specs of your liking. Do some research on suspension handling for rwd cars then make your choice. Me personally, I would buy the ExV's over the Megan plainly due to the fact that they are similar in price and well... Apex is a brand I'm more comfortable with. If you want really good coilovers, and willing to spend 2-3 G's, buy Ohlins. Forget the main name brands like Apex, HKS, JIC, etc. Ohlins are definetely the serious tuner's choice :thumb:

underground 05-15-2005 07:50 PM

Megan does not resell to Apexi, they both simply buy from the same manufacturing center...

And who is your buddy over at Megan? I am great friends with the owner, so I'm curious to hear your connection over there with the inside info....

zeroGripS13 05-24-2005 07:09 PM

from what i know both the apexi and the meagan coil are made by http://www.bcec.com.tw/function/function_06.html

so basically this company makes em and sells em to apexi and megan and meagan choices to sell for less.. if im wrong ohwell so be it i dont care...

underground 05-25-2005 03:04 AM

You are correct....

Bryan 05-25-2005 03:05 AM

might look into getting a set soon...

LA_phantom_240 05-26-2005 10:41 PM

Information is a terrible thing to waste isnt it? And to those noobs who always think they are right and argue left and right, shut up. really. If i argue and find out im wrong, i dont insist im right like you guys do. Its annoying.

Sorry for the excessive flaming, i needed that outa my system

KeN VeRsUs RyU 05-27-2005 03:49 AM

If they buy from the same manufacturer, then technically they are the same.. unless MR or Apexi does some modification to theirs. Interesting topic indeed. I wish i had this thread before i bought some 1300 flex's. hmm.. maybe not d=D

naptime 05-27-2005 04:39 AM

I'm actually might change my mind on the flex. I'm considering buying a set of MR coilovers because it seems to be the best bang for the buck

LA_phantom_240 05-27-2005 08:06 PM

money talks, dude.
