powerless steering

well, just last week my car started making weird moaning noises whenever i'd turn at low speeds, and after some inspection, i found my power steering pump was leaking

anyways, i was driving my car (yeah i shouldnt drive it around, might make things worse) and it felt so much different. It was alot harder at lower speeds to turn, but on the freeway, it felt like my car was glued to the ground

what i was wondering, are there any disadvantages to powerless steering? (besides it being harder to turn) like would any parts wear out faster? I think it would be nice to remove the power steering, no need to maintain it, plus frees up some power...

I can't think of any disadvantages to non-power steering other then it's really hard to turn when going at slow speeds.

Yea its a ***** to turn when you are goin slow or stopping tryin to get out of a parking spot. I drove my moms metro for like a year. There is one def advantage to it though. After a while your arms will be freakin rock solid buff, lol.

yeah i drove delivery in a '88crx. good upperbody workout and if i cut the wheel and yanked the ebrake it would 180 in the snow.

is there a way to loop the lines eliminating the pump to make it manual. i hear if the fluid drains out it just destroys the pump anyway.

also, as long as you keep the steering rack gear lubricated with fluid (ATF), you should be fine with the manual steering

i dont think im gonna go with the powerless steering cause my dad sometimes drives my car and he'll be like wtf, so i gotta just get a new pump
