S13: Wheel widths and offsets

I searched and didnt find what I was looking for.

My friend and I are in the process of building up his 1990 240. We've started rim shopping to clear the 300zx brakes that are going on soon.

Whats the widest wheel in (16-17inch) that can fit on the car with approximately 38-42mm offset? Front? Rear? The car will be on Tein coilovers and lowered but nothing too extreme (1-2 inches?). Any need for spacers? We'd prefer to stay non-staggered but use the widest rim all around.

Right now we're looking at 16x8.5 and 17x8.5 rims and hoping to run a 245 or 255 wide tire.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Whoa! 38-42 is too high man. Go lower, like low to mid 20s at least. With offsets that high you might not clear the coilovers. And clearance of the brakes depends on the design of the rim. Oh, and with mid 20s you can go 8 inches wide.

I'm having some trouble finding low negative offset rims in the stock 4 lug pattern (trying to avoid the 5lug conversion for $$ sake). Any suggestions?

So the widest we can go is probably an 8inch rim? How crazy would we have to go to fit wider shoes under there?

Thanks for the reply.

38mm-42mm offset won't even let 8" clear the coilovers. Max you can go with a 38+ is 7.5", but I still wouldnt do that.

Look into Kosei and 5zigen wheels. Or old school JDM wheels.

Thanks, Hyjynx.

We arent set on that offset, I just threw it out there because it was the most common option we were finding. Our top choice is a Kosei K1 in 17x8.5, now that you mention it. Could you recommend a ballpark offset to make it work?

Thanks for the help. Any input is welcome, I'm just here to soak up as much info as I can.

Like artic said, around +20 would be good. +15 even better, this is only for the front.

For the rear +20 to +25.

BTW, you should be able to fit some 245s on there.

DAMN that's huge!

I'm still having trouble finding wheels in those lower offsets. We're looking for a lightweight rim. The widest possible to use non-staggered around the car (same size, offset).

Any suggestions would be great.

Try Gram Lights. They have good offsets for 4 lug. And the spoke design will clear Z brakes.

Thanks Landho. Jeez you S13 guys really get shafted with the 4 lug options. Gram Lights had one good choice for size/offset but I cant find anyone selling that wheel.

Low offset rims with 4 lugs for our cars would be meshies if you like the look.

it's tough to find a deep offset 4 lug, you just need to keep looking. Check ebay for "s13 wheels" and variations, you'll find something. I am at a worse disadvanteage, cause I have to buy mine through my work, and it's damn near impossible for me to find any. I've been looking for about 2 weeks now, and haven't turned up a single thing. I wish I could just buy a set off ebay.

Shane, I'll check ebay, thanks.

Do you guys think its worth the $600 for the 5 lug conversion just to get the exact wheel we're looking for?
