snow tire size for 17"

I was wondering what would be a good size match up to put on a S13 for 17" tires front and rear. It will be seeing a few snow and ice days if i put them on, so whatever has the best traction would be appreciated

Wouldn't you save a lot more money if you just bought a couple(or 4) stock steel wheels and used them for snow?

right now i'm rolling on stock rims, with M & S tires. But I was just curious. I was gonna get a new set of tires for my other rims, and just in case I decide to switch em, I wanted to know what would be a good size around. Most likely I won't put them on, but I would also like to know the best size around for control and traction even for normal weather.

17" snow tires are not a good idea.

Unless your brakes are so large that you can't run a wheels smaller than 17", then go with a set of 15" wheels (steel or used alloy) and have snows mounted on them.

Especially since mounting alone will cost you ~$100 to change from snows to summers if you have them on the same wheels. And the tires are going to be much more expensive in that size as well.
