Stripping Paint on Wheels?

Hey guys... picked up a set of used 300ZX wheels to use for drift practice, but they look super-cheesy because the previous owner painted them some "sunshine yellow" or something. Anyhow, I was thinking of stripping the paint off of them and repainting them a simple silver or something. I don't want to paint over them because when they chip, yellow will show through. I was wondring if anyone knows any good chemicals, special removers, etc. that I can use to get to the bare metal. I don't want to have a wheel or body shop take the paint off (save $$) and I want to do the strip/repaint myself (gratification). Any ideas?

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get yourself a 5 gallon can of "Peel Away"

The stuff is great. We use it at work for lead paint abatements. It seals the paint in it's goop while peeling it off the surface.

5 gallons might sound like a lot or might be a lot but you save money when you buy it in bigger containers and I always like to have stuff on hand just incase.

Good luck.

Don't let that **** touch your skin.

LOL
yeah, touching yoru skin would be bad.

Home depot would be able to tell you exactly what would work well based on the composition of the wheels. Id probably sand them down and then buff a new finish on them, but Stan's idea is probably best, heh.

Stuff goes straight to bare metal. We use it when before we torch structures at work. They are painted with lead paint from the 50s and 60s.

So you put this paste on. Go back in the morning and it is down to the metal.

stanbo, what about something to make my SE wheels look somewhat shiny again? They are spotted and I can't get them looking like they should.

Strip them clean with the peel away.

Then soak them in boiling water.

Here take a look at what I can do:

Take a look at the rims when I got them and what they looked like when they were done.

You can take them to an autobody place and have a coat or two of clearcoat sprayed on when you are done.
