Tanabe vs. Tein

Tried searching, but didn't come up with much. Okay, so I'm looking to sell my s14 in about another month and will then be looking for a s13 and some suspension parts shortly after. I've got Tein SS's in my 'Teg, and enjoy them. The ride is nice, and definitely not too stiff. I know a lot of people have Teins and are very happy with them. I do not intend on drifting or Auto-X'ing. I basically want something firm, but not excessively stiff, that I can adjust the height with. I would actually get springs and struts if they made springs low enough. So how are the Tanabe's? I searched and found that their spring rates are stiffer with the Tanabe's than the Teins. So all of you Tanabe owners chime in. Anybody ever owned both? Just looking for some direction. At this point, I'm leaning towards the Tanabe's because of the better spring rates and cheaper pricing. Any info would help. Thanks

spring rates don't make ride quality bro - shock damper tuning does. If you had SS on your Acura and you like them, then go for the same with the S13.

There's one opinion. =)

If you wnat something firm then dont sell the S14 what chassis is way better than S13.

The sale is pretty much a done deal. Seems strange to be going backwards and getting a s13, but the s14 was a separate project in itself.
l2aine, thanks for the info. I was thinking that the higher spring rate meant stiffer ride. Or is it basically a combination of spring rate and dampening? It seems like its a combo. ANd yeah, I do like the Teins, but was just thinking about trying something different. If they're comparable, I'd like to try the Tanabe's......just because. But if somebody says they're clearly not as reliable, or there are other issues, by all means.....Tein it is!
Keep the comments coming.

Not really. You see its the combination of both than can determine the quality of the ride.

IF the spring is to stiff the car will have a very bouncy ride. Because the damper is not doing its job. The car is just riding on the spring. So the bound and rebound are alot harder and faster.

If the damper over powers the spring, then you get a way smooth ride. But you will blow the dampers way faster since the spring is not really doing anything to help.

SS on an integra are completely different to SS on a S chassis car.

WTF is wrong with tanabe? Comparable?
Tanabe suspension is way superior to Tein.
Tanabe and Zeal are right up there with each other.

Tanabe's

I know Tanabe makes good quality stuff, but I guess I just haven't seen too many people running their suspension components. I'm pretty much trying to decide between the Sustec Pro S-OC Type II and the Sustec Pro S-S Type II, or the Tein Basic's and Tein Super Streets. Not looking at spending too much on the suspension. And yes, Tanabe SEVEN's sound good too, but WAY out of my price range. I'm looking to spend around $1200 at the most for the coilovers. Thanks for all the input. So any Tanabe owners care to chime in on personal experience.

True, I was just addressing the fact that a lot of people seem to think that spring rate alone determines ride quality... as we always say here, the spring and damper should be matched not just for ride but to keep the balance

although i haven't heard too many complaints from forums readers about tein, i heard in japan.. tein is just a so-so brand... Its' the marketing, availability, price and service that's top notch in u.s.

But, i do have the flex's and i can't really complain but i rarely drive my car.

It just seems like everybody gets Tein..........just to get Tein. I know that the SS's on my 'Teg have been installed for a little over a year, and so far, absolutely no problems. If I can get the same or better performance, ride quality, and reliability from the Tanabe's, I may be converting! Keep it coming guys......Thanks
