tein HA, flex, or HE?

getting more into what coilovers i want and wanted to know if anybody has any experience with the HAs. searched but didn't come up cuz "HA" has too few letters. did it with an asterisk and everything, didn't come up. so...i was wondering if i could get some specs on the HA because on the site, the numbers seemed kind of weird. it says ride height max and min in front is 2.6-3.4 and back is 0.4-2.4 (which seems a little better).

also, how do these compare to the flexes? i know the HAs were really good and popular with a lot of different applications of cars and driving styles when it was a current model. but how does it compare to the newer models? is the ride height adjustable with threads or is it like the flexes? that's one thing i really like about the flexes, it doesn't reduce suspension travel...

im buying used, so is there anything i should look for? iirc, they weren't too old, 10K i think. which probably translates to a year of driving. at that many miles, should i consider a overhaul/rebuild from tein or save for the flexes? leaning towards the HAs though because used, they are about the same price as the basics...

thanks for any advice...

Didn't they stop making HA's recently? I originally was looking at HA, HE, and Flex and I remember I couldn't find HA's new...

... Flex is good all-around. Not the stiffest for track, not the softest for street - but good enough both ways, especially for a daily driver (the "Flex" is for "Flexible")

BTW Super Drift isn't exactly a "mix" of HE and Flex, it gets the color scheme and EDFC-compatible piston, but the important stuff (spring rate, valving) is still HE spec

Take the 500 and keep saving. Be patient. It will be worth it in the end.

You can also order custom spring rates direct from Tein.

I have had the HAs and the HEs. I loved them both.

The HEs were better hands down. Height adjustment didn't effect spring preload.

I am getting Silkroad RMA8s for the coupe. They are a little better than the HEs when it comes to piston design, camber adjustment and valving.

^ agreed... don't gamble with used - coilovers are an investment; save more $ until you can buy a new set

LOL I think you missed the part where he said he's "buying used"

BTW HA's are prone to the elements - they don't have a rust-proof coating on them... so if you're buying used, you'll be pressed to find a set in mint condition

update: sooo...now im looking at a set of used HEs. a lot of you guys seem to like the HEs more. besides, the HAs i was looking at has been sold. but on the bright side, a set of HEs surfaced. about the same price and with less mileage.

question: with 5000 miles in canada (think road salt), should i be worried about rust? and with such low miles, should i be worried about overhauling or rebuilding?

also, i havn't read up about HEs that much, but are there different batches that differ in quality or engineering? e.g. b&m short shifter. first batch-rattle, second batch-good. ya know?

thanks

I don't know about everyone else, but I only choose HE over HA because HA was discontinued and didn't have the rust-preventive coating that the HE's have.

Doesn't mean I like them, per se. I did have HE's on my car for awhile before I switched to Flex

rust - there's a coating on them to prevent that.

overhauling - depends on how they drove the 500 miles. If they daily drove it on cobblestones, maybe.

versions - as far as I know there's only been one version of HE's sold in North America.

just remember if the price is too low to be true, then you're probably right

Hm... I was thinking about Tein coilovers.... but I located some MR adjustable coilovers. 32-way, I believe. Dunno how they fair against the Tein's, but I'm liking the adjustability.... 'sides, a friend of mine is having problems with one of his Teins being 'bad'.

MR = Megan Racing

They practically cloned the JIC FLT's (same design, same valving, same 32-way adjust) but who knows about reliability...
