sorry but i'm a noobie and im gonna be cutting my spare suspensions. wat are the bad... i heard that it's really bad but how bad is it because im not planning to buy a suspension because i'm saving for LSD this week and a JDM front clip(hope to have it before X-MAS).

It will be very bouncy, you could cut to much and it will be to low, and very bouncy. You will be annoyed by it in 2 minutes

 

everythign is bad about cutting your suspention unless you order oversized springs

 

what is this? 1990? who the hell still cuts springs these days?

Dude if you cut your springs:

1) uneven tire wear

2) super bouncy ride

3) dangerous at high speed

4) you'll blow your shocks fast

5) you could break other suspension components

I'm not about to get into the technical aspects of why you shouldn't cut springs, unless you really need convincing. In other words, don't cut them - save the effort, your tires, and some common sense - and just ride stock until you can get proper lowering springs or coilovers.

 

My friend cut them on a 99 escort, and we saw no diference in riding performance or stiffness, other than 1 inch lower to the ground. but that was only 1 inch. In comparison, my other budy cut his springs on an very old, maybe 82 RX7 and its like 3 1/2 or 3 inches off the ground, and it feels like you'r relying on the weel's flexibility for suspension. Thats how bouncy it is, and he sometimes can't go into some driveways cause its so low, one of the back weels will come off ground enough to not make grip. Also, if your car is very powerfull, you'll hear the diferential hit rock bottom (the top end of the shock, or chasis) when you aply a lot of torke, lets say, reving it up and Leting go of the clutch very fast. Save money and buy the coil overs or something. For 240's, there are tons of pieces and diferent styles and stuff for suspensions, Why go trough the hassel?. If ur going to drop it 1 inch, then I think its fine. More than that no.

 

You might not feel the uneven-ness, but your car does. eventually that 99 Escort is going to have a lot of problems... you shouldn't cut stock springs at all because you weaken them - even if you cut "just 1 inch" down from stock.
