Why do 4to5 lug conversion?

This is the same thread as before, but i changed the topic and added my new question, as to NOT start an entirely new thread... cool?

New $#!+...
What are the benefits to converting my 4 lug 97 240 ka car, to a 5 lug set up? Any draw backs? I dont want to do it if I dont really have to. I want 18x9 wheels all the way around, prolly going with some sort of coilover kit, not sure which yet. (Any suggestions?) I want the wheel edges/tires to fit pretty flush with the fenders, no sticking in/out, or stretching necessary. (Maybe later Ill add wider tires, and roll the fenders.) SO, umm... answer and opinion away!!!

OLD question...
I want my wheels to be right up to the fender, like, if you look down the side of the car, i want them to be flush with the lip of the fender. NOT like, way inside the fender. I want 18's, prolly 7.5 or 8" wide, i have the 4 lug hubs. THey are 4x100 right? What would a 45mm offset bring the wheels to? Stick out? Way in? ah!!! lol...
thanks guys...

hey also, quick question while im at it... good brake pads fofr the money?

Four lug 240's are 4x114.3, 4x100 is a usual Honda lug pattern. +45 offset is a FWD offset, which means with the sizes you listed it will be crappy, do some research on offset, search this section and check the FAQ section.

For an S14 you'd want to go at least 8" wide... 7.5 is FWD Civic crap... so is +45.

You might want to look into going with a 5-lug conversion, it will make it easier to find wheels with the right offset.

ex. 18x8.5 +15 18x9.5 +25 will fit nice. Check the size/offset of 17" 350X wheels, that sizing is flush up front and about 10mm shy in the rear.

Well to define flush varies with everyones opinion.

I like 18x10.5 +15 in the rear for S14.

Also you have to take in account how much camber you wanna run. What tire and things of the sorts.

^ true, some people call "flush" as close to even with the fender as possible without mods, some people allow for rolling to define '"flush"

I think levi and I agree on #2 (roll em)

hmm, damn, what if i did 45 offsets, but with spacers? i really want to use a set of wheels i have. and i read that the 4 lug pattern was 4x100... so its not? crapola... also...

switching from 4 lug to 5 lug... basically the main benefit for doing this is wheel options? are there any other positives? any negatives?

basically, i want to have some nices size wheels and tires under the car. i want 18x8 or 9 all the way around, that way i can rotate them and all that jazzz... would it be that bad to do 18x9 on all four corners? i wouldnt mind throwing a little bit more of a tire (width) on the rears sometime, and rolling the inside of the fender. i definitely dont want to venture into fender flare territory though...

thanks for all the help guys!!! this whole area is new to me... i just left the focus scene i guess... i had an 02svt focus, built block, custom turbo kit, awesome and fast car... street legal rally car, lol! i miss it, but will really have fun with my new 240! some work to be done on it, but it will come along nicely...

No, they are the wrong bolt pattern. You want 4 x 114.3 and no, do not use +45 anything. You would have to run like a 50mm spacer for it to fit right. That's like two inches. 18 x 8 is weaksauce for an S14. Go 18 x 9.5 all around with around a +10mm offset. Work Emotions fit the specs perfectly. You can run 235 or 245 all around with that setup I believe. All you will need to do is roll the fender to make it fit on stock body.

Good luck.

JVD.

if you REALLY REALLY want to use the wheels you have now there are 4x114.3 to 4x100 PCD conversion spacers as well as any oher combination u can think of 5x114.3 to 4x114.3 and vice versa, as well as 4x114.3 to 4x108 to fit wheels designed for european cars. but why not just buy new wheels? there was and i think there still is a special on FNs on ww.splparts.com i thinkwhere around a 17x9 +12 offset

Dude if you really want to be a cheap *** and use a 4 lug pattern you need to look into rims like 5zigen FNO1RC's, or Gram lights. They fit the 4 lug with a +15, +20,+25 offsets.
It kind of sucks having 4lug because there are less rim options to choose from. Big brake conversions would be a ***** too, since you have to drill a 4 lug pattern in an already existing 5bolt pattern.
Just do a q45 brake conversion first, then think about your rim options.
