270-320 whp possiblities?

2 Attachment(s)
hi, im looking at my options for my next car. this is my goal for whatever car i do get 270-320 whp that is :) please give me your opinions

whats a good path to take to acheive this?

-SR20DET?

-will i need to buy an aftermarket rear diff?

-could i turbo the KA motor and still be able to reach that w/o internals?

-what turbo would be good for either situation?

KEEP IN MIND,
id rather have a dynosheet with a consistant powerband like this

Attachment 25779

than have 480 whp at redline like this

Attachment 25780

lol sorry about the crude MS Paint drawing, i just wanted to get my point across :D and i did search a little bit, i couldnt really find anything. if you have found a thread please post it in here :)

thanks,
Greg

well you obviously didnt try searching to much...but as for the possibilities. how much are you willing to spend, as for getting the KA to that amount and the SR. The KA you shouldnt run any more than 7psi safe without internals...and thats all depending on what kind of shape your motor is in. and you will need at the least all the turbo acessories and an intercooler, so thats pretty much out of the ? without building it at all. As for SR your looking at least 1100 for the motor then you installing it, a front mount, fuel pump, injectors, tune, boost controller and a head gasket at the least to get you to your wanted WHP. any one else want to chime in if i forgot anything feel free:bigok:

You forgot the part where he needs to spend a minimum of 4000-5000$ for the full swap.

Awesome name bro..Awesome

zenkislider 10-04-2006 09:10 AM

well ya but i said thats if you install it...and whos name? mine?

Zenki_SliderS14 10-04-2006 09:13 AM

Lol yeah, true...Either way hes gonna have to break some bank..Cause he might aswell put a new clutch in and what not while the engine is being put in. Yeah and your Name Lol..

zenkislider 10-04-2006 01:06 PM

lol ya new clutch, if not itll be burnt in like a month. so i guess your going to have to decide...the sr as this amount for this power. and the ka if you build it same amount but way more power.

EJ253 10-04-2006 04:20 PM

^^so your saying it'd be much less expensive to make a 300whp KA24 than SR20DET?

either way, im going to be getting new clutch/brakes/suspension. will i need a different diff with 300 whp?

zenkislider 10-04-2006 05:33 PM

im saying it would be about the same price i think, but once you spend that much money the ka is built so can go way beyond 300. im not to sure the exact amounts though, wheres silviaks2nr? he has a nice ka-t setup.

motegineon 10-04-2006 06:16 PM

ok so heres the deal, with the ka your not going to be able to push 300hp on stock internals, so yea its going to have to be built, but once it is done, its going to have lots of potential..

the sr can make a little over 400-500 on stock bottom end, the head is going to need a small build, such as springs, retainers, rocker arm stoppers(for safety) and cams would be nice, which a head is much cheaper and easier to build than a bottom end...

now you have to keep in mind that the sr20 is a used engine and 20psi on a 50,000 miles engine isnt going to make the rings to happy, not saying there gona go bad, but you cant make promises on how long they will last..

both the ka and sr put out pretty nice torque curves compared to other 4cyl engine but the fact of the matter is, is that the ka will always yield more torque due to its higher dispacement, and stroking an sr is retardedly pointless..both motors are great and have excellent potential, its just what you would prefer, high revs and lots of hp and pretty good torque(enough that your going to have traction issues) or a little lower reving engine with way to much torque that its fun and good topend output as well. I suggest searching the topic "sr vs. ka" on this forum as well as on google, there are thousands of topics on it and it really boils down to preferance and opinion, not facts, because the fact is is that both motors are awesome..

as for the diff, no the diffs do not need to be replaced due to having to much power, but you would definately want atleast a vlsd is not 1/1.5/2 way because youll never have any fun with 300hp and one wheel spinning, also the axles are very strong as well so dont worry about those either unless you planning on like 500+hp

the ka motor is going to max out aroung 230ish hp on stock internals while the sr is going to be around 400, but keep in mind you already have the ka and get to save almost $3000 not having to buy another motor, which people do because they like the sr better(like me)..then again that $3000 could be spent into building the ka up, which will allow for higher power output...

just remember that you will need many other things other than motorwork...

intercooler, fuel upgrades, engine control, and full exhaust/boltons, boost controllers and so forth..

just try searching first and then come back if you have specific questions.

damnit show my post!

EJ253 10-05-2006 06:32 AM

well which would be more reliable? i built 300whp KA (with the mods you mentioned) or a 300whp SR (with like 18psi)

zenkislider 10-05-2006 09:15 AM

if its a built ka, and the sr isnt. then the ka would be more reliable becuase its built.

MS!3 10-05-2006 12:55 PM

^^^what he said, a ka with 300 hp proably has been rebuilt, a sr with 300hp probably hasent because it can hold that much power on a stock bottem end. the ka would be more reliable, if the sr wasnt built internally.

EJ253 10-05-2006 09:53 PM

i've been lurking more and realized this subject has been covered numorous times. sorry guys

i've read that you have make a KA24DET 300whp safely without building the motor. what do you guys think?

motegineon 10-05-2006 11:31 PM

post the link where you read that, i disagree but im always open to new information
