Question Anyone here driven a 240 with Turbo KA24DE?

I've seen many turbo 240s but all of them have the SR engine. I know people do Turbo their KAs but I rarely find any. Has anyone here driven/own a 240 with a turbo KA24de? How is it? How is it compared to the SR20DET? Do you like it? what are your 1/4 times? on what boost? And most importantly: How fun is it? thx!

I've driven a s14 ka-t at 7psi. It has the greddy kit. It wasn't mine but I really liked liked the low end power it had. I have a redtop in my car but its still at stock boost with the tiny t25. Whatever engine you got a turbo makes it more fun. I've seen about 5 ka-t's in the past 3 weeks and everyone seems to like them pretty well, and they havent gone above 7-8 psi yet.

how come everyone stays at 7-8 psi? is it strictly because of the stock pistons and connecting rods? what other factors are there?

you should be able to hit 11 psi on a stock KA. anything above and you're asking for it.

IMO, they usually stay around 7-8 because the stock HG usually gives out when you go over 8PSI.

The stock bottom end can take 15PSI well...but the head might be another story(don't know yet)

how much would a good head gasket run for? also with a new head gasket u could lower compression which would be optimal because the compression is a bit high for turbo correct?

A good metal head gasket will run you 150-250 depending on where you look. Lower compression is always boost freindly, but you gotta remember this. The stock compression is fine for boosting but only to a certain level. If you lower the compression, you'll be making less power than with the stock compression running the same psi. However, once you start upping the boost, lower the compression to prevent the engine from going boom, lol. Only lower compression if you're go something past 10psi or something.

well my intention was to up the boost to make more power, so i wanted to buy stronger head gaskets and in the mean time lower compression to make the engine safer, but at the same time it seems like that would defeat my original purpose of getting more power. i need to find the mix somewhere in between, what do you guys suggest? i want the most hp out of my turbo, but without taking any risks.

I think keep the stock pistons in there, but if you get a metal gasket, try to find one that is a little thicker so the compression is still high, but just alittle lower then stock. that should give a good combo.

dont forget that there are other things to watch when boosting big numbers.
