Ball Bearing Turbos

Has anyone had any experience with Ball Bearing Turbos? I was thinking about a T60-1 Hi-Fi Ball Bearing from Turbonetics to use on a SR20... Any thoughts about this? I'm kinda debating about whether or not to get the SR, might just go with the RB and maybe a T68 ball bearing... I'd just like to hear some feedback about these turbos as I'm not very knowledgable on turbo sizes

thanks

a T60 is a very large turbo and there will be some lag due to its size... i woud recomend getting the sr20 and a car to install it in before you wory about upgrading the turbo

That doesn't really answer my question about the turbos... This post was regarding a turbo question not a motor or a car... I was looking for advice on a future turbo setup.

not to jack your thread, but i have a question that sort of piggy backs off yours.

on ball bearing turbos, are there ball bearings on the exhaust side or compressor side or both?

He DID answer your question. What you need to be concerned about is that you will have lag on either turbo. To compensate for this you will need to get a smaller exhaust housing, on the SR i would not go higher than ar.50
Im not sure about the RB, i dont have alot of experience with those, but I know that a T68 is a LARGE FRIGIN turbo (bigger than a T04R).
I dont know about the ball bearings. I also need some training on those
Dont let anybody tell you cant put the TO4S on your SR because it is being done on a car right now with STOCK INTERNALS and he is dynoed at 380hp

ALL BB turbos are dual (intake and exhaust). I haven't been able to find a single BB turbo. No matter what turbo you put on any motor, you will have lag of some sort.

As monkey force stated, a T-68 is a HUGE turbo compared to stock. But with costs there are rewards. Hence it being BB, that will help the turbo lag due to less friction, but depending on how much boost you want to run (the T-68 i've seen up to 35psi on a MR2) is how much lag you will have. More boost = more time.

I know more about Toyota than Nissan turbos so I don't know if you can get the factory turbo upgraded. The Toyota CT26 can be upgraded to fit a T4 compressor and the CT's spin up soooo fast. I've seen cars produce 20psi by 2500 rpms with the upgraded turbos. If you can upgrade the existing turbo from a SR20, that will probally be more benificial due to the fact you dont need a new manifold or adapters, and you don't need to modify any of the lines (water, oil, air), and it would be cheaper.

Just my .02

Another question is what do you want to do with your car... cause if yo uplan on autoX you will want something that will spool fast and breath he whole powerband.. if you looking to drag the car you can justify the lag...

I'm looking for mostly autox/road racing type stuff... also maybe a little top speed... I'm not really big into drag.. seem kinda boring to me.. what size turbos do you guys recommend for that kind of app. I'm kinda looking for something around 375-400 hp on forged internals for the SR

thanks again for the replies and the feedback

like i said before it may be best to get the sr and car before you start to worry about 400hp...

just to get the sr up to 250hp and then do some good suspention work would benifit you way more than 400hp...

If your in to AutoX, then don't go with the T68. I've got a Garret M43 on my MR2 (if you don't know what that is, its bigger than a T88) and it doesn't spool untill 7k rpms, but it goes to 48 psi and i use the 2 DRAG ONLY. After I get it to stop detonating, I'll break it loose at the track, after a stop at a dyno to see it go to 890hp.

Choose a smaller turbo that can give you 15-25 psi that you can spool at 2k.
