Damage to Car?

alright, i posted earlier in reference to blowing white smoke and everyone seemed pretty sure that was the sign of my headgasket goin, as was i. so then, what next....i mean, i know driving it wont correct it, but will it cause serious or more damage to the car if i continue to drive, even if controlled.....i obviously wouldnt be blasting through all gears at 7000 rpms, so can i get away with driving for a while til i have the money to repair ? i havent seen any posts on this topic, either cuz its utterly ridiculous or no one has thought to ask. either way...thanks

do not drive it at all it can get worse it will warp your head and can cause water to enter your oil then you will have to rebuild the hole thing. DO NOT DRIVE!!!!

i say drive all you CAN. you'll more than likely need to rebuild the whole thing anyway, that's what happened to me. i drove carefully and tried to control the white beast and in the end i still eneded up buying a new engine. DRIVE IT TILL IT DIES!!!!

yeah, drive it until at the worst time the oil gets in the coolant and it overheat and leaves you stranded and you'll need machine the head or just buy another engine.

It's not the best idea.

i got a KA24E motor in my 1990 240sx and when i rev the engine i see smoke come out, the moto has about 130,000 miles on it, how would i test it to figure out why the white smoke is coming out (the motor has been run for awhile, and since that i've prob started it up like 5 types and every time theres smoke)

mines an SR20DET, but im sure the source of the problem can be similar. It may be like mine and the headgasket is starting to go out on you. correct me if im wrong anyon, but if it is then there is condensation and/or coolant that is leaking and exiting in the form of steam. so that would be one explanation....im not versed enough in the mechanics of the car to be able to tell you all of them.

you can drive it for a while. BE CAREFUL! don't go anywhere far, and watch your coolant temperture (it may not say it's over heating, it may actually say it's cold because there's no coolant over the sensor just air). check the coolant levels all the time, and check your oil for it's level and to see if there's coolant in it. just in case you need it you should keep coolant with you at all times...as long as you don't overheat it you should be fine.

It's risky, but it can be done. Without any coolant in my car (as soon as i poured in it poured right back out) my cavaler lasted 2 weeks. and after that all that happened was i warped the head (easy fix).

dkdeleon: i've never seen an engine destroyed because there was coolant in the oil.

when you have a bad head gasket, the coolant and oil can mix -bad thing.
and the coolant can enter the combustion chambers/cylinders-bad idea.
i suggest you not drive it and get it fixed ASAP!
you don't want to have to buy another or rebuild the sr20det.
