inexpensive turbo set up questions.

i was looking back at my old SCC from 2002 and found the "Build a turbo silvia for under $3000". there is an article in there where someone with a 96 has a ka24det with 438rwhp. It says that his first turbo set up was one he got from ********** and it safely ran 7psi non-innercooled. i would plan on innercooling it, but i looked on the site and could find nothing of that sort. if there is a way to safely run 7psi and still have a reliable daily driver, i would like to know how. it says it blew up because of a hose clamp going and it over boosted... but... i would still like to know where he got the thing from, how much it cost, and what his power was. anyone got any ideas or know what he did or how to do something like that, let me know

all you have to do is get an s13 and drop it in the car. $2500. should cover the clip with all nessesary parts and leave a little money for new hoses and a tune up. the other $500 can be put toward motor mounts, gauges, suspension. or was your question geared toward the ka engine?

i dont know if this is what you were talking about but made to get 438 rwhp maybe the 3500 was just for the turbo but they had to have everything else built in the engine.. no bs cause if you could just slap a turbo on a ka and get that big of gain's there is no way that people would be swapping it for the SR20 **** matter of fact not even the rb25.. dont mean to be joaning but just trying to prove a point but good luck

sorry, its my fault for not clarifying. with the simple set up running 7psi non-intercooled, he was making about 200whp. thats all im looking for. about 200-220rhp. once i have about that i will do little mods to give it more power ( e.g. full exhaust, front-mount intercooler ). i want to get this done with under 1000.

U tuboed ur ka for under a grand. Tell me how. My 240 has 80000 on it. I think thats a reasonable amount to slap on a turbo. I just don't know a lot about them.

my deuce-4 has almost 105,000mi. on it and im gonna turbo it. i wouldnt bother if i didnt know how well the blocks hold on. this thing is a 4 cylinder tank. its got a cast iron ( and practically indestructable ) block. im going to have my valves redone before i do it though. what set up did you use turboing your car for under a grand? i want like a detailed parts guide with price that you could get for me. do u need a new fmu or fpr? what did you do about the ecu? i wanna borrow your brain for this project heheh :P

if you think you can do an sr20det into a USDM 240 for 3000 you are crazy. to do it right you need to be looking at spending at least 4000-5000. do it right or don't do it at all. KA-T is cheaper anyways, and after it is built up, i personally beleive that it is stronger and more fun to drive. but like i said, if you are going to turbo or swap expect to spend no less then 4000 to do it right. you might could skeem by with 3500 or even 3250 for a KA-T but that is the lowest you could go and not expect a couple hundred different problems.

I guess you havent looked around,
you can find an sr20det + tranny for $1500 at nippon motors shipping should be $300 and installation could cost you no more than $650
if you do the math it should come out to no more than $2500
