Question KA Greddy Turbo Kit for '97?

I would like to hear from ANYONE who has this setup on their car what kind of engine management they used. I'm looking to pick up a 1997 5-spd SE. Also, can this kit be ran on a car without any management for a period of time or does it need to be tuned right away? Can I just adjust the a/f with a controller and be safe for awhile?

One more Q: Does anyone know of some reputable shops in the SoCal area that build up the KA motors? More than likely I would like to do this. Or if anyone local would like to help with a project, I would love to build the motor myself.

Thanks

haha You're not the only one. I had my 240 up on the racks for a while so, I got myself a Lancer OZ Rally. then, turned around and sold it like a month later. For the same reason as you. but, still that was the dumbest downpayment I ever made...

Yeah I could have done much more with that money. Oh well. Live and learn.

I've been researching turbo kits for the S14's for months now, and i think the best bet is to build you own kit from scratch all the pieces are out there and you can make alot more power than the Greddy kit for much less$$$$$
Check out Jim Wolf Technologies and Import Auto performance also Turbo-Kits.com for other options

I agree that piecing it together would be the best option for alot of people, but personally I don't have the time to search around for all the parts I need. It is much easier for me to order everything together. I can get discounts on the stuff anyways so it is not a bad deal for me.

Also, anyone know what these shops charge to build them?

With the Greddy kit, you can get an intercooler for an additional $650 iirc.

The ka24de can hold more the 10psi. If tuned correctly it can and will hold 13-15 psi. The rings are the weak spot in the KA. If you have no detonation then the KA will take 15psi. The key is to get the fuel to it and have it tuned very well.

Just think, if 6-8psi puts out 210hp-240h, then 13-15 psi would put out well 300hp+

On a stock, high mileage ka24de, I would not run more than 0.5 bar without a rebuild, especially if this is a daily driver. THe ringlands are known to be the first to go.

wow.....

I'm looking to put a turbo kit on my car and I've looked around. the kits that are sold complete are a waste of money. if you don't have the time to look for the parts, don't waste your money. you can get everything plus AFC, etc for less than the greddy kit. do some of the work yourself, save more money. but, I'm having fears already. my car has about 90,000. and the turbo I put on there is going to be an 18G off my roomies GS-T. I'm going to upgrade everything, but internals. Anyone know from experience how much of a beating the engine will take without upgrades internally. stick with low boost? build up the engine first? That, and on the east coast, who knows what they are doing? So many issues....
Imput????

Without upgrading injectors/maf/ecu/fuel pump, you could probably run up to 6 psi. Not sure if that is what you are saying you want to do ...
