KA24DE Turboed Legality

So, can a KA24DET pass SMOG check or whatever other type of bullcrap Emissions Act is designed the ride us from any type of fun? If so, what kind of settings would it be?

I'm just trying to explain to one of my friends that I wanted to make a KA24DET, but I have no clue what are the advantages over the SR20DET. As far as I know, SR20DET is ILLEGAL in the U.S., but still my friend still pestering me like hell that I should swap an SR20DET instead of creating a KA24DET.

Actually if you make your own turbo kit out of scratch it'd be illegal. The only kit I know that's CARB legal is Greddy's, and thier's is for the OBD-I KA I believe. So you'd have to swap in an OBD-I KA to bolt on the Greddy turbo and still be legal. However, if you do get caught, it'd be easy to take off the turbo components and run NA until you get your stuff settled out. :-D KA power

For what I know is that the greddy kit that's for 1996 and up 240sx is supposed to be cab legal. I heard it's not anymore, but I don't know. I'm going the KA24DET way too because if I where to get cought it'll be easier to take off the turbo stuff than to swap a whole frickin' engine! then swaping the old back in! not to mention having to do the rewiring! OUCH!! I'm keeping my car looking as stock as I can. Only difference is going to be the rims and wide tires, that's it. I was thinking about a drop kit but screw it! Turbo kit should be here next week! can't wait!!!

it kinda depends what you want to do with your 240.

if drag = kA20DET is what you want
if drift = sR20DET is what you need.

kA20DET = ability to gain more power. bad when in redline. (while you drift, you hit the redline quite frequently)

sR20DET = stronger. handles redlines like nothing. more durable. takes lots of PSIs to go over 400HP.

KA24DET = illegal. GReddy turbo kit is Smog legal. Not street legal. But if you have that GReddy plaque, cops wont know if its a custom kit or not.

SR20DET = way too common. better for drifting, handles redline like nothing.

true so true. and you can find someone out there that makes the replica plaque. I had one for the civic. Only cost me like $25. and they look exactly the same.
