Ka24et Vs. Rb20det

Whats are your guys opinions what should I altimetly go for, I want reliability, gas mileage (my ka gets 240 per tank with 2/3 high driving and shifting at 2500rpm`s) and power potential. I am stuck in between and still leaning twords rb20det.

I would go Rb20 over the ka. I think it would be more stable(stock turbo) versus the ka. If you have the flat top pistons its only gonna make it harder. (more compression-more chance for detonation)
Also the rb revs better and i think it has a better torque curve.

If he's getting his R32 front clip for $1200, than this is debate-able.

if youre not going for the power argument, then do you want the extra power now.

Ive heard of people waiting months for their engine to get in stock. just a thought

hey, if all that is available to you, go for it.

itll probably be better in the long run than a kaet considering its really old. my problem with them was that I had to ship cross country, and all sorts of other stuff.

for my next 240, Ill probably do a swap. but I couldnt be happier with my work right now.

good luck, and hit me up in aim sometime

when you guys talk about reliability, do u ever take into consideration the mileage on the rb20's? that would be one of my greatest concerns, that i would get some high mileage turbo motor that might just blow soon on its own, nevermind after modding it.

I think 70% of the time, RB20s will have less Miles then a KAe...and be more reliable. A big risk with JDM engines...you dont know how the past owner/s have treated it.

i'd do none of that... go find a ka24de and turbo that. your motor right now isn't as strong as the DE. plus when you need parts for the rb, it'll be hard to find. plus this is cali.... i live down in the v-town and in cali an rb is illegal... go get a ka24de and swap that in. it makes more power (debatable) but for sure it can make much more torque. if you don't have enough funds to do a ka24de swap yet... i suggest you wait, it'll pay off in the future.

I may be wrong, but don't misc. parts for the rb20 add up in price? I only say this because it's a Japanese engine and are parts readily available in the US? Plus, the KAs already in the car where an rb (basically a drop in) still needs some modifications.

I say KA-t, but that's just me.
