q's about ka24de turbo kit

I was looking around for turbo kits for the ka24de. I no longer want to do a sr20 swap. I think it would be cheaper to turbo my ka motor, and that the difference would not be by too mcuh. I found this kit on ebay for $750.

It is a top mount for the 94 and up ka24. 1) Will this work for my s13 ka24, or not. 2) Also, it says it's a top mount kit, does this mean that the intercooler will be one of those little dinky ones that mount above the valve cover, or does it just have to do with the placement of the manifold. I am a total n00b to turbos, I have never owned one, or driven one. So feel free to flame me, but rememeber that. 3) And it doesn't look like an intercooler is inlcuded so do I need to buy one for the turbo to operate, or is necessary to function (I know I am going to have to buy one sooner or later, but do I need it for the car to work after installation?)Also, if any of you know of a better turbo kit that would be great, i'd rather not buy one from a company I've never heard of, unless somebody here can back that it's a good kit.

you'd have to buy an intercooler... and probably a bunch of other stuff... the TOP MOUNT means that the turbo itself is mounted upwards rather than down below the turbo manifold.

Where can I buy a greddy or hks kit other then at greddy or hks .com. I don't want to get charged up the *** for the turbo. Lookin to buy one for like $1500. Also, do you think I'd be able to install it myself? I've never dealt with turbos, so I wouldn't know what goes where without a how to or an installation manual.

ps: with the turbo being mounted above the mani, I owuld still be able to put my intercooler in the front right? The location of the turbo unit shouldn't effect much should it?

Yeah, but will a turbo kit for a s14 ka24de work for a s13 ka24de? That stage one looks like it would be good. Leaves plenty to be upgraded. All the engine swaps just seem like too big to deal with. You buy a crate motor, and you have to worry baout what it doesn't have that you have to buy. I 'd rather rebuild the ka, and turbo it for the same price as a sr20. Thanks for the info.

ps: If all the other kit needs is an intercooler, what's so bad about it? Is it just poor quality?

The major problem with that is that somebody told me on another thread that for some reason the s14 kit won't fit my s13 ka motor. Exactly why not, and what do I need to buy in order for it to fit?

ps: what's a standalone and why is it necessary?

yes but why exactly will it not fit? And what would I need to buy in order to make it fit (ae: buy the kit, and buy a new manifold to make it fit or something)

i think it should fit, i know that like 95+ motors are a lil diferent than 91-94 the i defenetly know thet the inkate manifolds r different and the other major diference is odb1 vs odb2. but like with greddy kits they say s14 cause the intercooler plumbing is different and wont match up with a s13 but everything else fits on a s13

Well I know they make s13 turbo manifolds. So maybe they make those because htey are the only reason the s14 turbo on't fit aside from intercooler tubes. I want to get some more input before I decide. What is obd (1/2). Would it be a majot problem with the installation?

I emailed boost designs. They told me that the kit would work with an s13 with not problems. He also said that you don't need to modify/replace your ecu with the stage1 kit. Somebody on another board told me that since the s13 is obd1 and the s14 is obd2 then I would need a new fmu, but the kit comes with one I guess. So I think Ima go with the boost designs kit when I get the cash.
