turbod ka with new internals

i was thinking and wondering one night and came to a problem that i was thinking about since i have my 240 and now looking for a modding direction. i was thinking that if you have a ka change the internals to support a turbo (like change it to low compression pistons and etc.), wouldnt it be better than a sr? i mean with new internals couldnt you produce more boost with a turbo and capable of higher horsepower applications? i was just wondering since im still gathering money for a sr what other options i could take.

you dont have to lower the CR in an S13....
just beef up the rods and pistons.
you can make as much hp as an SR with stock internals.
again....search KA-T and the force will be with you

if you rebuild the KA with a better head gasket and such then yeah, there's no problem going KAT. This is a huge debate, and like rudeoy said searching will find you lots of information.
the KA does havbe it's advantages, like an iron block, compared to the aluminum on the SR, it's displacement is better (2.4 vs 2.0) etc.
The only reason it's not as popular is because the engine has to be rebuilt, so for mosy people it's easier to junk the high mileage KA and get a lower miled SR with everythign already setup.

If I can convince my uncle to help rebuild my engine i'm dewfinately going KAT.

a rebuild is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I rebuilt my talon and at first I knew NOTHING about dsm's. There really isn't much into it. Keep the manual close by if you have questions. Nuts and bolts man, nuts and bolts.

NP!

I'm looking into how much to rebuild my engine, and trying to figure out exactly what is needed, and i'm still not 100% sure, maybe i'll make a rebuild kit and sell it, lol.

I'm trying to get my hands on a longblock so I can start the rebuild process. From my last post asking about boosting the ka, he said that stock internals are good for about 320hp. I was thinking of boring it out, getting stock oversized pistons (they do have those, right? they did for my other car), shotpeening the rods, micropolish the crank, deck it, then reassemble. Shouldn't cost too much to do since I got da hook up at a machine shop.

Other than that, maybe cams, gears, and a vavle job, seals...that's about it. This will take some time, but I've got all the time in the world.

any of you guys on AIM? my sn is Romeyo0707. Love to talk to you guys about these set ups.

I dunno about 320, i wouldn't risk that. especially with all the miles on most engine's.

But yeah, there are ross forged pistons, and definately upgrade the head gasket. There are a few places online that sell a full rebuild kit, however those are stock replacements so for you it wouldn't do much. I'm just gonna do a stock rebuild, maybe do 6-8 PSI KAT.

Well, all DOHC KA's have the same CR, regardless of being S13 or S14.

Really Ace? I thought the S14's had a slightly higher CR? Weren't the S13's like 9:1 while the S14's were 9:5:1?

As far as the KA handling 320RWHP on stock internals, I'm sure it can be done but for how long? I wouldn't push more then 270RWHP on the stock internals. You don't know how the motor was treated before you bought it most of the time, and what kind of abuse the motor has taken.

I plan to just build a new kat and go with a higher compression (stock is 9.5-1 I'm thinking 10-1 or 10.5-1). This will allow me to keep the low end torque and the engine responsive when out of boost. Ever driven a car that relys on boost to make power; well it's kind of like this. Stomp the gas buckle your seat belt light a smoke and then hold on. I know not a ton of people have tried it and I'll have to retard the ignition and feed the car octane booster with fillups, but I hate turbo lag.

lol jack how much boost you planning to run with 10:1 or 10.5:1? i would say you could run 2 lbs safely. and plus you know how much you would have to pay for gas? well if you dont youll have to get more than 91 octane and thats expensive but i guess good luck anyways
