what breaks next? (high rpms)

ok, say I have an S14 sr20det, and I already have this:
http://www.junauto.co.jp/products/cy.../index.html?en
step 2, with the valve guides and cam sprockets.

what would break first in my engine due to high rpm's? Im looking to go to 9000 rpm.... maby even 9500.

the question is why would u want such a high redline???

at 9K your seriously jeopardizing the rest of your drivetrain and u definately need a scatter shield so that u dont end up sliced and diced

I want such a high redline because of what I may be using my car for. what I would like to do is clearly seperate the car into 2 areas: sub 4k, where the car would be very driveable, wouldnt suck up tons of fuel, and would never be exposed to full throttle. then, between 4500 and redline, the car would be very edgey, and just like they seem to say at some point on every race on tv, the car would be balanced on a razors edge.

why? because I would like to be comfortable during the day, and fast at night. but mainly, I would like to get a setup where I can switch the revv limiter, from 4-5k to whatever I want it to really be, so that when I get trashed and my friends drive me home, they wont kill themselves (and me)

and a scatter shield sounds like a good idea, but I wont need it after I trash my first tranny and a dogbox/regular high strength tranny

i see what your trying to accomplish but it is ridiculously difficult and expensive. r u thinking of going N/A or turbo?
both will be very expensive to do correctly but the turbo will yield far more hp

read the first post again, I said it was gonna be an S14 sr20det.

and I sill would like to know what would break next in a 240/S14 drivetrain.

edit--
I am thinking of getting my tranny worked on by a guy I know who for 1700, builds AWD trannys that shift at 10k rpm. Im talking to him right now to see what he might be able to do with a S14 tranny.

To get 9000 rpm out of an Sr you need to completely rebuild the entire engine and drivetrain. At that RPM everything on the engine would break. You'd be better off just buying a block and build it with nothing but race parts or buying a crate engine.

Sinfestboy 11-14-2002 06:53 PM

sigh, I guess Ill just settle for 8500 :(

I'm with Stupid 11-14-2002 07:00 PM

Still not very streetable. After 8000 rpm you need a lash killer kit to convert your lifters to solid type which need to be adjusted every couple thousand miles. To get 8500 you'll have to replace all the bearings in your engine. I say 8000 rpm is fine. For that you'll just need rocker arm stoppers, valve springs, and pulleys.

wow, I didnt know that the sr was so weak at high rpms.... I dont mean to say that its REALLY weak, I just mean that I know of many engines that are glad to rev to 8k with just new valve springs, and 8500 with valve springs, cams, and a couple other various parts, according to what engine it is.

I'm with Stupid 11-15-2002 09:10 PM

What engines can really go that high? Not a lot at all. Many engines will have problems that high.
BTW

and 8500 with valve springs, cams,
cams are worse for high rpms:p

go RB and rev to 9000 with no mods just a rev cut;)

with the RB you got to be careful not to overboost at 9000 rpm the RB's have a valve train to rev. unlike the SR as we all know.
9000 in fifth gear can get you 190 to 200 mph in an RB powered 240 with about 500hp

say i'm lyin;)
