To clear the confusion of OFFSET

So it has come to my attention that many are VERY confused about offest. So for the love of God and the sake of sanity of those who know what it really is and other technical info about wheels and proper fitamment (spelling?) I am offering a VERY sweet deal, I finally dug out my OLD DVD of Grip (I think Vol. 2 or was it 3?) in where they go to Mackin Industries (for the noobs, they are the sole main distributor for Advan wheels and Rays Wheels i.e. Volk, Gram Light) and clarify ALL myths and provide true info on fitamment.

What I need:

Someone to teach me how to rip that section out of the DVD

Someone to host it so that we can have it on here to edjumacate everyone!

K, Thnx.

i dunno.

well all i know is that "offset is the position of the mounting pad in relation to the outer edges of the wheel based on width".

at least thats what i tell people when they ask.

beat me to it.

but the one thing to keep in mind is that peoples opinion of what offset you should have is just an opinion and nothing more.

So it was covered... I take it ppl just dont know where to go for info.

Lately, all I hear are things about offset being the type or numbers of spokes you have and the like... it just makes no sense and I want to fly out to where they live and donkey punch them right in the face.

As long as it was covered, all good. But for the love of God, I hope ppl read up on things first before they talk.

And yes, offset is more so a preference. Its just that lately... ah hell, I'll just stop the *****ing there...

For S14's 9 Wide and +15-20 Would be good offsets w/o having to do much altering to the fenders

But the thing about negative offset is backspacing. Some really sucky companies for whatever reason make the offset lower by pushing the actual mounting surface further back while leaving the spokes near the outer diameter of the wheel. So I like negative offset but I like lip (especially stepped lip) so when I look for a wheel I usually tend to go for negative offset as well as a nice lip. Flush spoke to outer wheel diameter are extremely UGG imo.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Isnt that unsafe as well if the mounting surface is too far back from the spokes as well?
