Aftermarket HU install

OK, the car is not up here yet but I am gathering everything to install the system now. It is a 98 240SX. Where is the best place (good price and best looking) to get the adapter kit for the HU? Is the stock radio single DIN or double? I do not want a one size fits all here..it has to be perfect fitting and look as stock as possible. I am installing a Alpie 7863 in it..along with a bunch of other stuff...but the dash kit I cannot locate yet...any help is appreciated.

almost any competant stereo shop should carry a kit or can order one for you. Metra makes kits that fit very nicely and arent very expensive. don't get suckered into buying the "one-size fits all" import double-din kits because they usually suck.

You don't need a dash-kit your 240 is a iso mount. its screwed in. all you do is unscrew it take of the bracket that mounts it and put the new one in

it is an iso mount, the problem is tho if you use the factory mount holes you will end up with gaps around the radio because you wont be able to use the alpine trim ring. How i mount radios in these cars is to first remove the stock radio, if you look at the factory pocket it will have a lip on the top of it, you will need to remove it by cutting it off or sanding flat with the front of the pocket, this will let you move the radio back so that the alpine trim ring is flat with the pocket, but you will need to make new mounting holes in the factory brackets. this will make a nice and clean flush factory looking install. Sorry for not having step by step pics but it is all in my mind.

Matt, you drill new holes in the factory metal mounts, or aftermarket ones? As far as I know the factory mounts have holes with part of the metal "poking" inward toward the HU chassis... where it centers the countersunk screws over the HU holes. Did you grind these down too?

at work i use really short sheet metal screws, like 1/8th of an inch in length, and i screw directly into the aftermarket radios chassis, i have never had to grind down the factory brackets to mount any radio in these cars, if you cant get your hands on screws that short you can make the new holes in the factory brackets by drilling the holes with a bigger drill bit, hope that clarifies a little

hmm... maybe if I can get a pic of what i'm talking about, I'll show you. I wanted to have my head unit back a little also so it would sit flush, but there was no way without a drill and some modding.

You know what - my mistake... I confused the S14 bracket with a 94 Celica bracket (I was installing my HU and my dad's HU during the same afternoon)
