Digital Speedometer problems

I am having major problems with my digital speedometer from my 89. At first, a long time ago, when I started my car, the speedometer would not turn on. Then after about 10 minutes of driving it would turn on. Now, when i turn on the car, the speedometer shows up, but turns off right away. Some times when it turns on, I mash off in first gear and the speed actually shows, but turns off. I know it's not the fuse because it actually turns on at first. I would like to switch it to an analog speedometer but I have an engine from a 95 240sx. But that's besides the point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Keith

wow it sounds fun but difficult. Getting the hazard switches and all those switches on the side are a real pain to get off is there any other easy way to get them off or am i stuck using my hands and spending 30 mins for each button. Is there a special tool for this? thanks in advance.
