How much should I be worried about depth when buying new 6.5s for my doors? Will Kenwood KFC-1679ie or 1689s fit all right? If not, what kind of depth/mounting depth do I need to look for?

I have some adapter places to mount 6.5s, but wasn't sure what effect they will have on depth.

When you go to buy some speakers take one of the stock ones in with you and compare it to the speakers you want to buy.

I just installed new 6.5 inch speakers in the doors of my s13 and they clear everything fine. The speaker brackets for the 4x6's make the speaker stick out, but if you mount it flush it should clear no problem all i had to do was drill 3 holes in each door.

if you are going to install 6.5's where you had 4x6's, i would recommend making a piece that bolts up to the original holes that the plastic mount for the 4x6's went using MDF, 3/8 will do just fine. Any thicker and the foam surround on the cone will vibrate slightly against the door panel.

Also, try not to get any speakers deeper than 2.5", ive heard that if you go any deeper your window wont roll all the way down.
