The actual sub or the actual amp? I'm running an ok amp with a great sub and i'm wondering if upgrading the amp would improve the sound quality at all.

Well from what little knowledge i have about sound systems, i believe that if you have an amp that has enough power to run your sub at the recommended level and then some, the sub will sound better. Because if the amp is working hard just to put out decent sound imagine how an amp that barely tries sounds. So they both kind of go hand in hand. You cant run a good sub with a crappy amp, and you can't power a crappy sub with a good amp.

Just my 2 cents

both :P, crappy amp + good sub = crap
but i would say a majority of it is the amp, a decent sub with a good amp can sound pretty good but all in all both count

i would say the amp is more important if you're looking for sound quality. anyone can make loud, crappy bass, with just about any combination of the two. if you already have a great sub, get an even better amp and you'll be amazed at the difference. i once ran two he2's off a boss amp and it sounded really nice. but when i upgraded to a fosgate 600.1 amp, the difference was night and day. it's obviously louder, but its the clean, hard-hitting bass that you want to get out of it

the speaker only produces the sound that the amp puts out... if the amp has crap signal in it will make that sound even worse... but you cant have sound quality without all parts...

its actuall the voltage on your pre outs on your head unit the hight voltage the louder and clearer the sound.... and i do agree crappy amp makes bass sound like ****... good amp bad sub sub sounds like ****....you need good voltage, about 4-8 volts on preouts... and a amp to push your subs neither working too hard for great sound... by the way i work at best buy... in car audio.
