Auto Question's

i own a 93 automatic 240sx. i recently placed a bid on ebay for a 98 automatic tranny for 150$ because i thought that the torque converter in the tranny was worth it. now that i did some research, it seems all automatics have torque converters. (i felt stupid because i thought it was an upgrade like a LSD). now i will probably win the auction because i dont think anyone would want to bid on an auto tranny.

is the torque converter in the 98 tranny the same as the one in the 93?

is the 98 tranny exactly the same as the 93? DANG...

if i swap the tranny's will it be an upgrade at all?

thanks for reply's

There are some companies that make upgrade torque convertors for drag racing, but if it's stock from a '98 then it's nothing special. Perhaps if you called a Nissan dealership and asked the parts counter if the part numbers were the same you would know.

The limited slip is in the differential, not the transmission, and yes, you can put a VLSD in. Search the forum for information regarding installation.

The trannys are different, the 98 trans mission has a different bellhousing case, the bolt pattern is the same, but the case uses a crank sensor mounted in it. The ring gear is different due to the fact that the 98 has a slightly different torque converter than the 93, it has something to do with the lock up part inside the converter it was upgraded along the years.

no you cannot put the 98 torque converter in the 93 tranny and vice versa.

if you swap the trannys you might not get it to work due to the computer controls on them.

hope that helps
