s13-s14 trans questions?

well i'm selling my s13 trans its 5spd i'm selling it to my friend but his car is a s14 and its auto. he asked me if it'll work. I said yeah i don't see why not. there the same thing... but you may have some sensors and wire issuies to mess around with till its working and shifting right. so how would this be done? would there be any issues to play around with while doing the swap because i'm gonna help him do it. let me know. thanks. : )

If you're only asking about differences between s13 and s14 transmissions, then there are differences, but most of them consist of the things you already mentioned (sensors, wires, etc.) The biggest difference to me is the crank angle position sensor on s14 transmissions. These sit on top of the bellhousing. If this sensor is absent, the CEL will come on. Even if you reset it, it will come on sooner or later. Also, cranking up will become a little bit...rougher? Also, if you own an OBD-II s14 (I do, later 1996), then you will not pass state inspections with a CEL light (NC state inspection). There are minor differences, if you have access to these parts, switch the speed sensors and backup lights. However, some of the sensors don't match up. Also, I believe there is a dust boot on the s14 transmission that an s13 transmission does not contain. This isn't a big deal, but I would rather be safe than sorry....the fill plugs on the side are different too..(now I'm just showing off)

I bought an 1992 s13 transmission and tried to install it into my 1996 240SX. Physically speaking, everything bolts up fine, but the small differences worried me. In the end, I somehow got grease on my clutch disc or my shifter fork was screwy and I ended up having to replace the whole clutch assembly.....

If possible, you could take a bellhousing off an s14 and then bolt this up to the s13 gearbox, but make sure you kind of know what you're doing. The gears basically sh** out when you start unbolting things.

Going from an s14 tranny --> s13 is fine, but I would personally avoid s13 tranny --> s14 if possible. Maybe I just had bad luck. Good luck with the swap or whatever you're thinking of doing.

Please don't take into account my post #, I usually don't post and just browse, but when I know something I'd like to help out...and flaming hurts my feelings..ouchies...

BTW, anyone selling an s14 zenki front bumper...possibly with a front lip?

Forgot to add, the crank angle position sensor is SUPER easy to break. It usually breaks during removal and installation of the transmission (I'm on my 2nd sensor...) Replacing the part is around $60-70 from the dealer.

and oh yea, if you guys are curious, the clutch disc I was referring to earlier was an ACT clutch that I fried..gawd......
