Tranny fluid, gear oil,or regular oil?

hi i hope this doesnt get deleted but i searched and couldnt really find my answer, i have a integra but i search here and check out things for my cousins 91 240. im asking does the tranny take regular motor oil like 10w30 or gear oil 75w90, or both? because lately the gears have been slipping if you press on the gas it revs up to like 4k then catches

sounds more like a clutch issue maybe?

FYI the transmission is designed to use 2.5 liters of GL-4 gear oil (manual tranny) or 8.3 liters of ATF (auto tranny)

Diff is located at the rear of the car, seperate from the tranny bro - this is RWD.

you put 2.5L of GL-4 if the tranny has been drained. If it hasn't, you might want to replace the old oil anyways to see if it cures the problem. There's a drain plug at the bottom of the tranny and a fill plug on the left side of the tranny. Remove both and drain away. If you don't want to drop the tranny to refill it, you can pour gear oil through the hole where the shifter is inserted into (remove shifter, pour oil).

If you can't measure out exactly 2.5L, keep the fill plug (left side of tranny) off while filling the tranny with oil. When the oil barely starts dripping out of the fill hole, you're good to go.

Please clarify, does the car have an automatic or a manual.

A slipping manual transmission is a small problem compared to a slipping automatic transmission.

I pulled the GL-4 rating from the FSM. Try Redline MT-90, perfect for KA transmissions, about $9 a quart.

Besiees, GL-5 has crap in it that can kill the gears and synchros.
