AT - won't shift to D / key get stuck / won't start

Hello everyone...I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
I have a 95 240 Auto with 150K and it has been acting up on me. I wonder if anyone has had these problems before or have any ideas on how to fix it.

1) At times I have to play with the shifter to start the car. It takes jiggling the shifter + brake pedal. The battery is 1 wk old, the alternator is month old.... maybe it's related to the second issue

2) There are times that I can't shift it out of Park no matter how I play with the shift + brake pedal whether the engine is on or not. I have found out as well that I really have to push the shifter all the way to Park (till I hear a click) in order to take the key out.

Any information would really help...
Thank you so much.

the "click" is a lock type mechanism a safety thing.

Its connected to a few other things. Try and see if its loose and what not.

May be the litle actuator that locks it in place. Its located underneath the plastic covering of the shift ****. Inexpensive and quick. Might be the brake sensor that is not sending the signal to the trans ECU? try testing the actuator that locks it, try testing the plug for voltage see if there's a signal to it. My worst case scenario would be the "Inhibitor switch" but that can't be.

to take the key out, you gotta push the shift lever all the way forward until you hear a click, otherwise it wont release your key...

also, i dont know about S14 trannies, but on my S13, i have a little red **** that you can push, and it'll release the locking mechanism..
