I might buy a 1993 240sx se hatch...the only thing stopping me is that its automatic..

my question is how hard is it to do a 5spd swap (i believe its the ka24e) and what would i need/where can i get what i need...i have a basic idea that i would need a longer drive shaft, the cables, the clutch, the tranny, etc....but im not 100% sure on this...

 

the engine in that in a ka24de (dohc). The auto to manual swap involves several steps and extra parts to make sure you get along with your engine. On www.heavythrottle.com they have an install FAQ section. In it there is a detailed description with pictures of how to do the manual changeover.

im honestly not sure other guys on here that have done it could tell you. It all depends on how much you can find the parts you will need for. I would suggest going to a junkyard and find a '91 or newer 240sx and seeing how much they would charge you for the peddles, master and slave cylinder, clutch line, etc.

 

I charge $150 for labor after gettinga ll the parts.
Prices on parts varies.
Reman master cyl is usually ~$75
Reman slave cyl is usually ~$35
Hard line is usually ~$10
Used clutch pedal~$50
Clutch~$130(stock replacement, not performance)
Transmission~$200
Flywheel~$???
Flywheel bolts(different from flex plate bolts on auto trans)-$???
Gear oil ~$15
Brake fluid~$10

Then you will need a pair of shift boots, upper & lower and you are ready to go!

hey jonpowell i just moved from albany (clifton park) at the end of this summer. i have an s13 with an sr20det. Im sure i know a ton of the same car people you do, i think you are the guy my friend dave said is great with swaps. good seeing the albany on here
