I have the Rb25 (rwd) tranny in my car and was wondering how much abuse it'll take before breaking?

My goal is to have around ~600hp and drag race the car with slicks.

I was reading that the estimated max HP this tranny can take is about 700, but that sounds pretty damn high for a stock tranny.

As a side note, I've also read that the back end needs to be beafed up also...is this just putting in a better LSD and some stronger axles? I've got a R33 LSD and axles that will be put in at some point...

I've already blow a tranny before in my other car because of too much power and I'd rather fix it before something goes boom.

I think its the TQ that kills them. I don't think the RB26 makes as much TQ as the VG30DET built.

 

Well with the RB25 mission you are good up to 500whp I had the swap before I went PAR dog mission. It will take the abuse it will take even more if you upgrade to OS Giken but most people think it is expensive. It is not AS strong as the Z32 but it is close. I mean the torque you put out with an SR will not have the same shock as the torque an RB25 throws down, That shock breaks trannies.

I'm working out of state right now. I did try to drop my car off at a shop so they could put the motor into the S14 for me. Won't really know till I get back . Did pick up some 270 tomei cams and springs an headgasket. I got Protech starting to make my equal length manifold so it should be sweet when it's done. Going to work on my SR20VE swap into my NX2000 too when I get back, should take about a day to get it done.
