Can Cops search under the hood????
Stop driving in a manner which entices a pull over....if you get pulled over alot, sounds like you are a shiotty driver, no offense, and deserve the harassment.
If I was you, which I am not, I would look in a place where there ARE lawyers....not on a car forum.

i dont drive like an idiot at all, i never race on the streets. i do nothing to entice them,. just the fact that i have a s15 front end, 3 in exhaust that isnt even loud, guages, carbon hood. thats why they wanna pull me over. i fixed my windshield so i havent gotten pulled over lately, but still..it sucks everytime i see a cop i get nervous...by the way, where do i find free advice from a lawyer..?
Well, since the S15 Silvia was never sold in America, that means that the Department Of Transportation never tested or approved for use ont he roads of america those headlights. It is very possible that they do not follow the rules set up for proper functioning of headlight....ont he other hand it is possible they do. But regardless they DO NOT have DOT approval and therefore are illegal for use on our Roads...
If you have the Hyper white bulbs in your headlights they are no longer DOT approved either as that lamp assy was not tested with those bulbs and may be putting out too much light.
So....as the appearance of your car is not street legal...the cops will continually harass you.
As for free legal advice, check with www.NOLO.com for starters and see where if they can help...
Didnt bother to check if this will help or not, but here is a free legal advice forum....since you were too lazy to search on Google yourself.

james_s14: Read the first page of this thread and I've said all this stuff already.
I talked to a friend of mine who is a lawyer (just passed the board exams) and he was telling me that you can say "no I don't want you to search under the hood" and it is up to the cop to pursue it. That does not mean the cop will stop right there. He may open the hood against your will if he has probable cause which he can come up with any. I know it's BS but that is one loop hole that works for them. Then your only defense is to get a lawyer and play the "I got searched illegaly" hand. Which my lawyer friend says would be very hard to play.
BTW, I got pulled over tonight because of a broken tail light. The cop did mention my exhaust and said it was illegal to have a modified exhaust in my city. He asked me if I installed it and I said yes. I told him it was made by Apexi which is in Orange County, CA and it was suppose to be 50 state legal (don't know for sure) and that it was a cat-back exhaust. He just told me to get my tail light fixed and let me go. Whew! Dodged that bullet.

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
That is quote from the CHP link that I searched for you awhile back. Also located on the first page of this thread.
Also if you want to hear answers that you want to hear, then tell us before hand so Powell and others are not wasting their time finding the answers that you don't want to hear.

Hmmm, Im in Japan and my 4runner has over 130000ks and I dont get taxed any extra. Unless thats a mainland thing(dont think so) that cant be true, useless info for yall to think about. If your blow off valve is a problem then you are moving pretty fast. I know that just driving around normal mine cant be heard(active under boost). One thing to think about though is when you get out of your car then lock the doors behind you. Then the whole car is locked(hood release inside), save from putting unnecessary holes in your hood.
