first post little help please

hey everyone this is my first post. sorry if i ask some noobular questions. i'm currently researching for a new car and i'm trying to work out exactly what i would need to do to get a 240 to where i'd want it. i'm aiming for a street/autox handling car more then a drag car. once i get the motor in i'll be starting on wheels and suspension. other cars in contention are an RX7 FD3S if i'm really lucky and decide to blow all the money i'll have saved. and the other is a AE86 corolla GTS hatch. inital D style. just finished the stages for the fifth time. even told my girlfriend to call me Fujiwara Takumi. weeeee

first off is the atypical swap question. do i need a 240SX to do the swap or can it be done just as well with an LE?

second. how hard is it to swap motors? is it a un bolt the old one and bolt in the new one, swap ECU's type of deal or is it much harder?

if i do this swap will my car still pass inspection as far as the computer scanner goes?

that's pretty much it. i've already tried the search and no matter what i key in it doesn't give me any results. it always says Sorry no matches blah blah criteria blah.

you can do a swap on any 240sx. The most typical is the SR. If your ganna be going for a auto x/street car a SR20DET or a CA18DET will be ideal for you. It isnt very hard to swap the motors in, Hardest thing is probably the wiring..but even that isnt very hard. Do a search on SR20DET and CA18DET and u will find mucho stuff. o0h and these engines are 100% illegal, no way of passing smog unless u put a few grand into it just to pass.

well the county i live in doesn't do smog so that isn't the issue. i was just thinking like if they scanned the computer for error codes if it would showup incorrectly.

i've never heard of a CA18DET. i'll have to sarch for that. thanks for the help

would an RB motor be more for drag racing? the RB25DET i mean. i know this is going to be a much more difficult swap if i go this route.

i'm thinking that the RB is a 6cyl so there's going to be gobs more torque. so as long as it doesn't weigh so much as to throw everything off it'd be a killer street ride tuned to like 320-350HP.

i'm receiving a quite large check at the end of the year from being hit by a drunk driver so this isn't a pipe dream necessarily. please don't flame me for being the new guy asking about skyline motors.

edit: also this is the motor i'm looking at. are these guys reputable at all? http://www.xatracing.com/xatracingpa...sanengine.html

Im not the flaming type of guy so u wont be hearin that from me. The RB motor is more of a drag motor..Not the greatest pic for Auto X because its about 60-70 pounds heavier then the SR. You can tune a SR or a CA to 350ish HP and it wont break down on u and plus its a better choice because an ideal drifter/auto x motor. And that website..has high prices'. For a S13 SR front clip u should pay around 2500 plus shipping. And dont get a motor set..PLEASE get a front clip. It will save u lots of stress. I hope i help ya.

why get a front clip? less custom work? a front clip comes with the front section of the car doesnt it?

front clip is basically from the shifter on. Usually doesnt have body panels..and if it does then they are in bad condition, unless u are VERY lucky. A front clip comes with evrything u need to do the swap, unlike a motor set which usually komes with engine/tranny and ecu and maybe wire harness. No IC piping..no IC..no pipes or anything.

ok sweet so basically you pay the extra $400 or so and you get the advantage of basically a bolt on affair.

also these usually come with a tranny so i don't need to get a car with an manual right? since they're pretty hard to come by
