how much harder is the swap into a 89-90?

ok i know a guy selling a 89 or 90 240sx fastback for 500 bucks. the front ends damaged along with the radiator but i plan on replacing that anyway so doesnt really matter too me. my only concern was how much harder is it to do the sr20 swap into these than it is to do it into the 91-94's. if anyones done it or knows what needed can you help me out thanks.

You need to do something about power steering (if you want it) and tach. If you get a front clip you'll be all set though.

If you don't get a front clip you can get the parts from a 91-94 240 from a junkyard or something though

1. 91-93 Power steering reservoir

2. 91-93 Power steering lines
OR use the SR Power steering and lines/custom lines

3. 91-93 guage cluster (Tach)

4. For A/C: KA compressor requires a simple custom bracket to mount to the SR engine. Or you need custom A/C lines to use the SR compressor.

I believe thats it.

Swap with SOHC Lines.

you don't need power steering lines from a 91-94 b/c you can mod the 89-90 lines to work, and it doesn't take alot of effort. but if you want a clean "official" power steering line sinstall then yeah you can swap them too.

It's not much different from an install into a 91-94 240 and sometimes guys front clips do not come with a cluster. so yeah i would just get a JDM cluster or a cluster from a 91-94 240 as a backup unless you are going to pick up the clip then you can see if it comes with one anyway.

You'll also want the to take the drive shaft dust cover off of the KA engine that's one thing no one told me about and i had figure out why it looked like the drive shaft bolts would not line up. heheheh

for get about a/c and get those 5hp back! also who needs power steering

real men drive buses (reference to how hard it is to steer at low speeds)

thank you all for the insight, the swap doesnt sound that bad at all. i keep finding grips of pre 91 cars all over for the right price and i was scared of the SWAP. now i now i dont need to swap the whole front end and that makes me feel better. where is a good place to get all the nescarry swap parts and if you know of anyone in the NW please let me know.
