How to pick out a GOOD SR20DET motor / clip?
Hey all,
Scenario:
A very large engine distributor is nearby. Atleast 25+ full front SR20DET clips.
How to pick out a good motor?
Checked the mileage on the odometer (where applicable, some clips missing the cluster); checked the oil dipstick - super black cooked oil or coolant - no good. Also looked for salt and sun stains on the fuel injector rail and spark plug cover. Other than that - what else to look for?
Check vin # ?
How can you really know what you are getting - seems like luck of a random draw. A lottery almost.

Honestly, the front clip can look as good as gold...and give out in a matter of day/weeks/months once you get it running.
Compression check and Leakdown test if you can. Check the oil pan, turbo condition(if you can).
