keep the KA24E or swap in the sr20de???

hey, i own a maxima at the time but i just picked up a 1990 240 with the ka24e. now i know my stuff a little but when it gets into it im a little confused. once i sell my car im gunna have about 5grand to put into the 240 and im definately gunna go turbo. ive been asking around about the sr20 swap or turboing the ka. a few people have told me the ka is cheaper to turbo as opposed to swapping the sr. now like i said ive only got 5 grand and its gunna be a daily driver so im not looking to go all out but i want as much power as i can get with a reliable car at the same time. whats the right motor for me?? help me out

thanks

I would look for a rebuilt Ka24de and turbo it. You can find them for a couple hundred bucks. The extra .4 and higher compression will help you down low in the rpm range.

I agree... that extra cam on the DE makes a difference too when you boost it... plus you can find decent used KA24DE's for around $300-$400... and if you piece your own turbo kit, you might get away with a transplanted KA24DE-T for around $2000 total or so (not including labor)... whereas a standard SR swap would be somewhere in the $3000 range depending on motor/labor rate, etc.

i been debating about this issue as well, and from what people tell me, its better to buy a rebuilt motor and turbo it,if your looking for the power...but how hard is it to get a rebuilt KA24DE motor? definitely down here in LA, my car should be hitting about 200k sometime in the next 6 months (I drive alot) so i should have about maybe $800 saved up by then...

DOn't know about buying a rebuilt DE, but I know for parts alone it'll cost you around $500-700 (that's if you know how to or know someone to rebuild the motor you have)
