Reads the volume of air entering the intake tract of an engine allowing the ECU to properly calculate proper injector duty cycle for ideal air/fuel ratio inside the combustion chamber.

Basically tells the ECU how much air its inhaling. Very important that you dont have any leaks AFTER the MAFS to keep the engine running properly.
