my rb swap progress
my rb swap progress
i told you guys i would update so here it is
so my story begins with this motor, if you saw my other thread you saw all my extras with the motor

going in this car

i wanted to prep the motor a bit so i check out the oil pan and saw this

VERY big dent, took it off and thankfully i found the oil pickup was not damaged, i picked up a new oil pan and put it on

i assumed that i needed a new clutch just to be safe since the motor is out of the car so i picked up a exedy oem spec clutch kit, but to my surprise while taking off the tranny i saw this very shiny purple thing blind me

yup thats a exedy hyper single clutch/pressure playe/flywheel combo (worth like $1300) i was so happy, this front clip had already gave me so many other surprises, i wonder what else i can find
well heres a pic of how my car sits with the ka

i will measure again with the motor out and again with the RB in so you guys can see the comparision(BTW im slammed on apexi world sport dampers 8kf-6kr i believe)
heres the intercooler shot just for the hell of it its 24x9x3

now the real start

this thing is not gonna be in there for much longer

some more progress, my car looks so ugly

thats about where i ended the night, wiring harness does not want to come out, i was tired and hungry so i decided to call it a night
my deadline goal is to get it running by christmas, i might not update too much on weekends since i work pretty much all day fri-sun but mon-thurs i will be working on it as much as i can. thanks for looking and if anyone has tips on how to get the harness out it would be great!

Check out www.racebread.com for an audience that will appreciate your work.
I usually take the dash pad off & loosen the AC/heater boxes to remove the harnesses...its ALOT easier to put the converted one back in if you do that.

people on these forums asked me to post pictures of the swap, if you think the pictures are useless then dont look at them and close the page
i thought i would post it for the real start of swapping my motor, obviously the first step would be taking off something like the intake and the next picture is just for before shot with a KA sitting then i would take one after with a RB sitting in there, im sorry if you thought it was useless but i felt like posting it, so what big deal
geez why is there always a dick on the forums talking sh*t
and thanks to jonpwell i figure out how to get the harness out

since some people want to see i will copy my last 2 days worth of postings from zilvia
heres a small update, didnt really get much done today but here you go
took out the shifter

got the harness out, thanks for the help and info, this forum is great! i missed a few bolts on the blower and after i took them off i got enough slack for the harness to squeeze out

got the driveshaft off, but it was dam hard with the small amount of space and only being able to use a open wrench, had to use a technique of putting two of the open wrenchs together to lengthen it and get enough leverage to loosen it, it works really well for the nuts and bolts that require a open wrench

here is where i left it

i would have pulled the motor today, but i was workin by myself today and it doesnt seem like a good idea to pull the motor without at least another person helping you, so its gettin put off until tomorrow
sorry if it seems like im posting useless pictures and such, but flame me if you want (already had **** said on club240), but i felt like posting the pictures i took as my personal log. deal with it or dont read this thread
and i got a few pm's about where and how much i got my motor from/for.
just so i dont get a million other messages ill post it here
my uncle owns a junkyard (winstar wrecking) that deals with alot of 240's and he imports crates of motors (SR, RB, 2JZ, 3SGTE....) so i got it from him, many people in the socal area probably deals with him for parts/motors and such and as for the price i cannot say since there are people who buy from him and i do not want to say anything he wouldnt want me to say (i did not get it for free i paid with my own hard earned cash, i saved for years). it was funny, i've been into 240's for years and never knew my family had this kind of business, call me lucky, cuz i am but i am also very grateful
and heres a list of parts i bought that most people out there will need
also included are some parts for an auto-manual
mount kit - $1,000.00 (syko performance)
walbro fuel pump - $90 (group buy)
SS clutch line - $22 (group buy)
clutch hardline - $50 (dealer/junkyard)
Intercooler - $200 (anywhere)
IC Piping -$350 (custom, im guessin here since i havnt had it done yet)
Wiring - $375 (its more expensive cuz mine is OBDII and auto)
Clutch cylinders - $71.00 (ebay)
clutch - $160.00 ( i have mine i just bought, but obviously i dont need it anymore so if anyone wants it, Exedy oem spec, includes pressure plate, clutch, alignment tool, pilot and throwout bearing)
clutch bracket/pedal - $50 (junkyard)
FAL electric fans - $250.00 (anywhere)
Z32 Fuel Filter - $10 (anywhere)
nismo shift **** - $40 (dealer)
shifter trim - $55 (dealer)
oil + filter - $45 (anywhere)
gear oil - $30 (anywhere)
coolant - $10 (anywhere)
Spark plugs x6 - $10 (anywhere)
new oil pan - $150 (dealer or someone that deals with RB's)
thats a total of $2818, so around 3k ON TOP OF THE MOTOR is what you should expect to spend on this swap, thats doing all the work except the wiring yourself, you guys can figure out what you need or dont
i think thats about it for now, anymore questions pm me or reply here

NEXT UPDATE...............12/12/05
here's my update for today
i had some help today so i went on to pull the motor, its weird how the camera flash made the exhaust manifold look red hot

then bam it disappeared!

and here it is torn from its home

after that was done i decided to go on removing the crossmember but on the last bolt that connects the LCA to the crossmember this happened
the culprit :squint:

i was about to go pick up my friends air tools but it was somewhat late and i did not want to wake my sister so once again its getting put off until tomorrow
although i do not have experience with the other companies mount kits i would have to put syko performance first because its been tested and retested and it does not use welded brackets and such for mounting the motor. the kit utilizes the RB crossmember just with some custom mounts so the engine sits in the ideal position. i have seen the mounts in person and i will post pictures of how it sits when the motor is in there. included in the kit is a downpipe, which you may need, and having one of this quality will easily cost you $200+
ALSO syko performance's customer service is BY FAR the best i have EVER dealt with. Dave and Gary are willing to help in many ways other companies would never even consider. i call and i IM them and they dont ever mind. i ask millions of questions, ask drift freaq. i bug him all the time. hell he even bought me some food when i went to give him my harness to wire up. now thats a group of nice guys to deal with!
thank you dave and gary for all your help so far and in the future!
thats about it for now

thanks for the update man, there's no need for you to apologize for ANYTHING, don't let the petty words of the few rain on your parade. You've obviously worked long and hard to realize your goals, and are just now enjoying the fruits of your labor. Besides, these updates are EXACTLY what every other newcomer to this site is always asking questions about; so it's always nice to have another source to refer them to . Keep the good stuff coming
I dont want to rain on anyones parade, I thinks its cool that you are doing a write up.
Some things i honestly think are unecessary. It doesnt need to be a step by step.
Good luck didnt mean to come off as an ***.
Some advice, invest in air tools they make a world of difference.
