Rb20det???

I couldn't find much info on this swap. I was just wondering what all of you think about the RB20DET. My friend just blew his KA and is looking for a cheap swap, the RB20. He knows someone that will bore it out and port and polish it (or so he says). I have been trying to tell him to save a little and get the SR20. I know the RB has a solid bottom end but I don't see him putting enough into the car where he would need to build the bottom end of SR20 anyway. Also my roomate is gonna do the swap so I guess I want to know how hard is it compared to a sr20? I saw the picks on unstable already. Any info is appreciated.

Chad

Oh yeah it is a 92 240 fastback

If he can get the RB for cheaper than the SR then go for it. It will be a little heavier, but having an inline 6 has its advantages.

The power output is the same if I remember correct, but I'm betting it has a better torque curve and probably better throttle response.

the valvetrain on RB engines are superior also.
you won't find a step by step install, but the info is out there bit by bit.
that's how i learned how to do my swap.

so do you guys think that the RB20DET is a better motor than the SR20DET stock for stock? I would think the RB20 has more potential being that it is an Inline 6. I am planning on doing the SR20 swap soon but if the RB20 is a better engine and its cheaper then I would have to be crazy to do the SR. I would be doing the swap myself but I am no advanced mechanic. I do know a good amount people who know there stuff and of course you guys Didn't think I would forget you did you???

I've always read the RB20 doesn't have as much potential as the SR?

the RB will always be a better motor then the SR

period

the 20 isn't as raw an a 25, but still better then the SR.
you can do good with that
the botton end is way stronget then the SR. short strong little rods, unbreakable valvetrain...WTF...i wouldnt even waste my money on an SR unless it was a pratcie car..my beater.....

stright like that....what?

but that's just me...i can careless wht the next man/woman do to their car..i don't drive it. but what you do with your car will depend on how you set it up....right?

i have an RB25 that i plan on making a good 600hp...190mph with a 9000 rev limit..apex rebuild next winter......
i like to go fast.and be the fastest.
*** a quater mile...i want like 3 miles to rev out on

and i'm dead serious

RB engines generally push rated crank HP to the wheels or very close to it. The RB20DET is rated 210 HP, the red top SR is 205. The average SR gets about 175 HP to the wheels, the average RB20DET would get about 210 HP to the wheels. Already a 35 HP difference. The RB20DET has less torque than the SR. I sell the RB20DET clips for $2250, if that's cheaper than your friend has found then we have a deal lol.

I have done swaps with both the RB25DET and the RB20DET in the 240SX and 280ZX. If you have any questions about the swap, let me know. Shoot me an email, IM me, or call me at 360-672-2415. You can also go to the FAQ section on my site http://240Skyline.nissanpower.com and it can answer a lot of questions.

What about as far as the install goes? I definetly plan on doing it myself and just like me my roomate has never done a nissan swap so no matter what I do I am getting a front clip to be sure. Obviously the RB engines fit but do you need to customize the motor mounts and **** or will they line up. I would assume you need to customize being that it is a 6. I guess what I am asking is how much harder is the RB swap then the SR.

Rudeboy & Night: Do you guys think that if I spent the extra on the RB25 it would be better then say if I put the extra 2 grand into an SR? (Honestly becuase I am just a poor college kid that wants a fast car) Like you Rudeboy I would love to be fast all around but to me 1/4 comes first then the next 3 miles.

Night: My friend is trying to get this guy to sell it for 1800. The guy was originally asking 2000 for the front clip.

Thanks for the help in advance. Don't mean to be annoying or anything just that no one here really talks about the RB. Last post I read here about the RB got the subject changed. Besides on this site its all about the SR but you guys got me leaning towards the RB especially with the way prices on the SR are going. Put it this way. After buying a 240 I will have about 5000 for the engine 6 if I am lucky. It all depends on what I can get for my car now. So what do you EXPERIENCED RB guys think honestly.

Chad,

As far as I know, I am the only experienced RB guy on this board. Rude will be experienced here shortly as he is priming his RB swap. He is knowledgeable on the swap though and a good friend of mine. Custom mounts are not necessary and the difficulty of the swap can be compared to the SR swap. It is just simple bolt in for the most part. If you have 6k, I would go with the RB25DET and a few mods. You can hit mid to low 12's, maybe 11's if you are lucky with that cash for engine and a few upgrades.
