redtop question
Be more specific. Do you mean if you hook it up with complete piping with no intercooler will it be fine, or do you mean if you start it without the intercooler or any completed piping will it be fine? Or something else?
You could drive the car without raising the boost without an intercooler assuming that you made complete piping, but performance would be down, and it would be more prone to detonation.
You can start a car without any piping on with the MAF unplugged and it will idle with no problems. It will not however rev up as it will be in limp mode. Being it is a MAF car, it cannot run properly(other than idle) with out a closed intake system with no leaks.

Completely fine. Just make sure the maf sensor wire is not connected and that nothing is going to get sucked into the engine.
As a side note, if this is the first time starting, make sure the oil pan is banged out and absolutely not the slightest bit concave. 75 percent or more of SRs that have been sitting on the oil pan are dented in whether you can tell or not. Then prime the oiling system by cranking the car for a few 20 second or so bursts of just starter motor. You can do this by disconnecting the cam angle sensor. Check to make sure its oiling well by looking in the oil cap. If it struggles with a fully charged battery, you may have an issue

Not trying to thread jack, but it may help the thread starter... If I buy an SR, and I want to do some rebuilding before I drop it in, what parts would you recommend I should pick up just for the sake of making sure nothing fails?
I'm planning the following to be replaced with new OEM parts (please feel free to let me know if these parts are better off with genuine aftermarket)
1.) Oil Pump
2.) Main Bearings
3.) Water Pump
4.) All gaskets
5.) Coil Packs / Spark Plugs
6.) Valve Guides (will be doing valves, springs and retainers for the bigger cams)
7.) Either BC rods & pistons or JE rods & pistons (rings respectively)
Anything else that should be replaced prior to install? Planning a GT2871R running about 15-19PSI Trying to be on the conservative side.
