Hi guys, i was wondering whats the difference between a redtop and a blacktop motor for the s14?? Also... i plan on purchasing a 95-98 240sx and doing a s15 front end conversion with the Sr20 and was wondering since there was minimal changes on the 95-96 to 97-98 if thers a better one to go for the setup i planned??

 

Well, since the S15 front end conversion is going to require most of the S15 front body panels, whether you get an S14a or S14b doesn't really matter. Might as well go with the 95-96 since it'll cost less.

I'm pretty sure the black top motor was the S13 motor, red top was S14 and S15. Could be wrong though.

 

Red top - '90-94 silvia, 180sx engine
Black top - '96-'98 180sx engine

All S14 and S15 engines are black. With the exception of the blue top in the NISMO 270R.

 

Which ones faster??? black or red???

 

Neither they're the same engine mechanically, but I hear the black top has a remapped fuel system so it revs smoother and quieter.

 

red and black top S13 motors are the same....S14 and 15 black tops are different...
