SR won't start...Help!
Ok guys, I've got a problem starting my redtop SR. The engine will turnover fine, but there is no spark goin through the plugs. I replaced them, then tryed again...nothing. I got a voltmeter out and poked around to see if the coilpacks and ignitor chip were getting power, and they weren't. The only thing I could think of that could be wrong is a bad Cam angle sensor. I had my friend crank the car while I held the black lead from the voltmeter to a ground and the red one to each of the prongs coming from the sensor. Only two of them pulsed volts. Are all four supposed to, or do only two fire (one for #1 and #4, the other for #2 and #3.) If the sensor is not bad, does anybody have any ideas what else it could be and how to test for any other electrical problems? Thanks a bunch!! Mike P.
Ok, we changed out the CAS, and that wasn't the problem, or at least not the only problem. Now #3 and #4 will fire, but 1 and 2 won't. Bad ignitor chip? I tried to test the chip by unplugging it from the side where it connects to the coils, grounding one lead of a voltmeter, and hooking the red up to each one of the prongs...only one read volts, but two fired??? Jon...any ideas? (thanks for the advice so far, by the way.)
ok cool. We're gonna borrow another ignitor chip tomorrw...hopefully that'll do it. Oh yeah, to stab in the CAS, you just set the engine to TDC and stick it in right? anything else? Thanks guys...I love this forum!
Ok, so we figured out it's a bad ECU. I swapped out ECU's and the car started right up. The weird thing is the "bad" one is only bad sometimes. It was only firing two injectors, but after we started the engine with the other ecu, and then put the old one back in, it seemed to be running on all 4 cylinders. I drove the car down the street, then on the way back, it was only running on two. Could something just be loose in the ECU, like a cold solder coming loose? Thanks for the advice!
Oh yeah, and we THINK we have the CAS in right (we just used my friends SR at tdc for reference) but how do I know for sure it's in right? Does anyone have a link or a lot of time on their hands to type out a step by step guide? Thanks
