Lightbulb VG30DE into 91 240sx

I know this is an old post, but I think I need to revive it.

I just got asked to use my car as a donor car for a VG30DE swap. I'm all for it, just want to know what I'm in for. The only thing I have right now is the VG motor itself. What I need to know is what can be used from my stock 240 over what I'm going to need. Things like transmission, differential, exhaust... Any info on previous experences will bre great. Thanks for any help!

just about nothing will be reused. Really. Go strip a 300zx from a wrecking yard to get your stuff.

Well youve got a lot of things to think about. Considering the VG30DE has true dual exhaust, and is in a V6 form instead of an Inline 6 (We have an inline 4 in our cars) there are going to be a lot of fabrications so absolutely not, you will not need your stock exhaust, your stock tranny or any of that ****. Youll prolly be replacing more **** than you thought you would. If i may ask, why not go TT i see no point in just swapping in a DE you just putting a V6 in your 240. Or is it because you wanna say that your 240 has a 300zx motor in it? Hmmm dont quite understand the reason behind your swap but ya you wont need anything from you stock 240 considering the motors are extremely different. O well its gunna give you hell for a while but have fun doing it...hope you have lots of help

VG30DETT wont fit, engine is too wide. Turbos will hit rails. VG30DE with a single turbo WILL work, then you can go single exhaust after the turbo & be kosher with the 240SX.

Im doing a vg30de swap this summer. If your just looking for a fun daily driver it will be worth it. Of course dont expect a beast. Thats not what I want though. My KA is about to kick the bucket. Yes, a lot of fabrication. Do it yourself and it will be worth it. If you pay someone to do it you might as well do an RB because it will be a lot of $$$ for labor. Like jonpowell said, TT wont work but you could convert it to a single turbo. Check out Freshalloy.com forums and youll find a sweet coupe with a vg30de(t) swap.

This project is definately going to have alot of blood, sweat and tears.

But like I said, my car is the donor car. There is already a line up of local shops that will budgetly contribute to the works of this car. So hopefully, if we count our pennies right we can have this car ready in a couple months.

Has of now we're planning on keeping the car naturally asperated. The VG motor has already been impressively rebuilt and only has roughly 250 miles on it. Dyno testing rated the motor at 220 whp. I forgot the peak torgue power, but i'll post the data sheet once I get a copy of it.

The team and I are already researching neccessary parts for the swap. The hardest part seems like it's going to be trouble shooting all the wiring and computers. Hopefully we can out smart it.

Once all is done and complete, we'll be installing my old, but beloved KA motor, into a 1992 Sentra... umm some how. I really do love my KA, so I'll make sure it lives on.

I'll continue to post the progress here, as long as some help related questions. Thanks for all the posts thus far.

Well first of all, KA will not go into a sentra without some heavy modifications I believe. Two different drivetrains FF and FR. I still think that if you dont do it yourself it will cost you a lot of dough. Plus 220RWHP? It takes a lot of internal work to reach that with a VG believe it or not. That engine has to have at least 2-3 grand in it or more. Go to 300zxclub.com and youll see what I mean. The most Ive seen them scrape was 216.....Neccasary parts? All of it will be custom dude theres no reasearching. And wiring should be cake if you have both FSM's and some knowledge of what you are doing.

Here are some pics of an S14 with a VG motor with a single Turbo. Basically our guide to S13 motor swap.

As for the whp, I just know what I read. Not really sure what they did to it, or what the dyno conditions were. I'm still trying to gather everything. Thanks for mentioning the webpage Fast1One, prolly could get many ideas and answers from that.

The sentra is our next project for next year. But we're still planning on what to do with it. Someone even mentioned making it a rear engine car. who knows, not really paying much attention to it at this point

Ive seen that on freshalloy. Do you know how long he took? ONE YEAR! Non-turbo with spray would be so much easier and cheaper...
