What to do after the swap?
What to do after the swap?
my friend told me after a s13 SR20DET swap has be done, or any swap at all, it's best to add some meters to keep an eye on whats going on inside the engine bay.
..is that true?
...if not, still what meters(EX:boost, oil temp, etc.) are a must?
....anyone want to recommend any meters?
.....what should be looked for when choosing a meter?

i might change the guage cluster so u get an accurate reading, and i would buy a boost controller, greddy makes a real good one for a wad of cash, but you get everything else with it to. 1/4 mile time, 0-60 time, etc, it is pretty cool, check that out, it is what i would do. oh, and i also would just buy the 180sx guage cluster and changfe it from metric to american
thank you..
thank you for the information...but now i have a few more questions on my mind...
..how do you convert the gauge cluster fromt metric to american?
...what would i need and have to do to pull off a COMPLETE S13 SR20DET engine swap by MYSELF?
....i was told that the red top and the black top are practically same, but are there any differences?

If your getting gauges might as well go the full 9 yards. Boost, oil temp + pressure, water temp, fuel pressure. I'm personally planning on buying a Defi set up like this. Also I sure as hell wouldn't buy a boost controller before a boost gauge that's just crazy. And as far as the gauge cluster... I used my 180sx cluster and swapped the speedo and odometer from the 240, or you can just swap the SR tach into the USDM cluster either way doesn't matter.
what's a good turbo timer..i was reading about the APEX INTEGRATION one, but i'm not to sure about it. I was also reading about the HKS and BLITZ one..but i still don't know.
what's a good reliable turbo time that's not to heavy on the pocket?

Yeah I bought a Blitz FATT DCII for aroung $86... I like it works pretty good. Apex'i one looks real nice too, but more money and more wiring, which for me I didn't see necessary to get O2 voltage. But hey if either you or Hyjynx want a blitz harness i got one for cheap.
It's jdm yo.

dude let me tell ya from experience. any time you've got forced induction you need at least a boost gauge, and its a damn good idea to get an A/F mixture gauge. (help keep ya from overboosting and bending rods or blowing a head gasket, or from youre fuel mixture leaning out and melting your pistons.) a hose pops off youre waste gate and you dont have a gauge to notice the boost increase or if it just spikes BIG. youre SOL.
turbos can get nasty if you dont keep things maintined.
turbo time is a good idea but theyre kinda overrated.
when i had my buick i used to go to meets with tons of turbo gear heads (old school american iron type guys) and not a one of em had a turbo timer on thier GN's or T=types. you can go for quite some time before youre turbo will give out on yah. (like ten years at least)

All turbo timers do is keep the turbo going after the car is shutoff right? If this is the case, couldn't you just let your car idle for a few minutes every time you shut it off instead of buying a turbo timer? If this is the case, all a turbo timer does is make it easier to care for a turbo car right?

so i could just leave the car idle for a a few minutes and it'll do the same thing as a turbo timer. so a turbo timer is just a type of insurance policy just in case you do forget to idle your car? if there is anytime i'm worn gwith something someone correct me..plz ^_^
